A reminder to Lincoln High School and Riverside High School seniors: The annual Ellwood City Area Historical Society Scholarship submission is quickly approaching. The deadline is Thursday April 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award two $1500.00 scholarships to two (2) graduating seniors. Graduating seniors from Lincoln High School and Riverside High School who have been accepted to attend a college, Trade School or Performing Arts are eligible. Woodske Speaks At EC Historical Monthly Meeting

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society met Monday March 14. President Everett Bleakney opened and welcomed those in attendance. Guy Prestia, a WWII veteran led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. A moment of silence in memory of four past presidents was observed. They were Glen Koach and Robert Barensfeld in 2021 and Jim Hockenberry and Karen Guy in 2022. Lous Liebendorfer, secretary and Charles Brown, treasurer gave their monthly reports which were approved as given. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will host its public meeting on Monday, March 14, 2022. This month’s guest speaker will be Thomas Woodske. Tom Woodske was born and raised in New Brighton, Pa, now resides in Franklin Township. He had a long career leading economic and community development projects for Duquesne Light Company, with the State of Pennsylvania, Beaver County, and the Gateway Rehabilitation Center. Ellwood City Historical Society Collecting Church History

Everett Bleakney, President of the Ellwood City Historical Society, announced Monday night at the monthly board meeting a new effort to collect local church histories. “It is important and vital to enlarge the collected information because it paints a picture of families that settled and lived in the community of Ellwood City,” said Bleakney. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society convened for their regular monthly membership meeting Monday February 14th. Present Everett Bleakney welcomed the 30 present and Guy Prestia, a World War II veteran led with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. The meeting commenced with Charles Brown presenting the financial report. Robert Morabito, chairman of the Programs and Publicity reported on the future guest speakers. Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall Memorial Exhibit Needs Volunteers

The Ellwood City American Legion Post 157 is preparing to host the Vietnam Moving Wall in Ellwood City on August 17-22, 2022 and is need of volunteers. The Moving Wall is a portable, half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. that has been touring the country for over 30 years. Historical Society Updates From First Meeting Of 2022

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society held their first general meeting for the year 2022 on Monday January 10th. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag led by Guy Prestia, a World War II veteran. The first order of business was the installation of officers elected in November, led by past president Al Kocher. The new officers, Everett Bleakney, President; Andy Kindle, 1st Vice President; Bob Morabito, 2nd Vice President; Lois Liebendorfer, Secretary; and Charles as Treasurer. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society is pleased to announce they will hold their first meeting of 2022 Monday, January 10 at 7:00 pm.
