Local Churches History Slated As New Historical Society Project

Andrew Kindle, Historical Society First Vice President, was appointed by President Everett Bleakney to head up the latest society project – Local Churches History. The project will collect information from churches that are in our collection zone of about a ten mile radius. 2022 Historical Society Annual Fund Drive Underway

The Ellwood City Historical Society board meeting was held on June 6, 2022 unveiling the Annual Fund Drive. The ways and means committee announced the dates for the starting of the fund drive. The committee stated the fund drive would start June 15 and run to August 15, 2022. The committee is composed of Everett Bleakney, Charles Brown, Robert Morabito, and Andrew Kindle chairman. The Ellwood City Italian American Heritage Foundation (ECIAHF) met at Ellwood City Area Historical Society on Friday May 27, 2022 for the monthly meeting. President Barbara Mastropietro welcomed the group giving special recognition to our Founder Mr. Gene Morabito. A Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance were offered. Phyllis Fusco taught some brief expressions in Italian. Each member was asked to take two business cards to distribute to friends, relatives, and someone you just met. Rocky Bleier to Speak at The Moving Wall in Ellwood City

Former Pittsburgh Steeler star running back and Vietnam veteran, Robert Patrick “Rocky” Bleier, will be the featured speaker at the opening ceremony for The Moving Wall to be displayed in Ellwood City’s Ewing Park from August 18 to 22, 2022. The ceremony, scheduled for 6:30 P.M. on August 18 at the Folino Shelter, is open to the public. Visitation of the Wall will begin after the Ceremony. Lawrence County CTC Unveiling Replica Trolley On Tuesday

The Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC) is unveiling a replica of the original 1908 Harmony Short Line Trolley on Tuesday, May 24th at 1:00 p.m. The festivities will include staff and students. The trolley replica, manufactured at LCCTC for the Ellwood City Area Historical Society, will then move to Ellwood City, to be used by the Historical Society. Jeffrey Bales To Speak at EC Historical Society

Jeffrey“Jeff” Bales will be the guest speaker at the upcoming Ellwood City Area Historical Society meeting on Monday evening at 7:00 pm. Jeff Bales Jr., a native of New Castle, currently lives near Culpeper, Virginia. While growing up, Bales and his family lived in such places as Scotland, Morocco and Guam. He attended nine different schools on four continents, including the former Wampum Public School and Koppel Elementary, where he finished third grade. A reminder to Lincoln High School and Riverside High School seniors: The annual Ellwood City Area Historical Society Scholarship submission is quickly approaching. The deadline is Thursday April 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award two $1500.00 scholarships to two (2) graduating seniors. Graduating seniors from Lincoln High School and Riverside High School who have been accepted to attend a college, Trade School or Performing Arts are eligible. Woodske Speaks At EC Historical Monthly Meeting

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society met Monday March 14. President Everett Bleakney opened and welcomed those in attendance. Guy Prestia, a WWII veteran led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. A moment of silence in memory of four past presidents was observed. They were Glen Koach and Robert Barensfeld in 2021 and Jim Hockenberry and Karen Guy in 2022.
