Wolverines Tennis Team Qualifies For WPIAL Playoffs For The First Time Since 2009

The Ellwood City boys tennis team has qualified for the WPIAL Playoffs for the first time since 2009. The team will await playoff pairings for the WPIAL Class 2A team playoff set to take place May 6th at the Janet L. Swanson Tennis Center on the campus of Washington & Jefferson College. “We are excited about the playoffs,” says head coach John DiBuono. “We play 5 matches and you need to win 3 to win the overall match. Ellwood City Tennis will be conducting a tennis clinic for any boy or girl interested in learning the basics of tennis. The tennis clinic will be held on June 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2025 at the Ewing Park Courts from 10am to 11:15am. Any child ages 5-12 is eligible to sign up and participate. Wolverines Girls Tennis Wipe Out Beaver Falls 5-0, Qualify For WPIAL Team Playoffs

The Ellwood City girls tennis team defeated Beaver Falls 5-0 on Monday and with the victory have qualified for the WPIAL playoffs. The Lady Wolverines have now strung together five consecutive victories to rebound from an 0-3 start to its regular season. The Wolverines remained unbeaten with victories over Shenango and Riverside this week. Ellwood City now holds a 12-0 record on the season. On Thursday, Ellwood City defeated its rival Riverside 207-224 at Connoquenessing Country Club. Junior Jordan Keller went low, recording a match-low round of 37 to lead the Wolverines. Ellwood City leaned on Ryan Odom who earned a singles match victory to propel Ellwood City to a 3-2 victory over rival Riverside on Tuesday. Odom defeated Jaden Falk 6-5 and 7-5. For Riverside, Samuel Hughes collected a singles victory, defeating Grady Smith of Ellwood City 6-0 and 6-3. The Wolverines boys tennis team dropped its first match of the season, falling to Blackhawk 4-1 in Ewing Park Monday afternoon. Grady Smith picked up the lone victory for Ellwood City. Smith defeated Aiden Terry 6-2 and 7-5 in singles play.
