ECASD Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley Reflects on 35 Years in Education

Dr. Wesley Shipley began his 35-year career in education as a fifth-grade teacher and worked his way up to superintendent of the Ellwood City Area School District. Shipley will retire on June 30, 2025. The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors reluctantly passed a motion to accept his retirement during the November 14 regular meeting. Shipley said serving the district and students has been a pleasure. Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) Program To Add Free Veterinary Care During July Training in Ellwood City

During Ellwood City’s Borough Council meeting, Borough Manager Kevin Swogger announced that the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program set to setup training in Ellwood City in July will add veterinary care to its lineup of free medical services. IRT is a Department of Defense (DoD) military training opportunity, exclusive to the United States and its territories, that delivers joint training opportunities to increase deployment readiness. Simultaneously, IRT provides key services (health care, construction, transportation, and cybersecurity) with lasting benefits for communities. REMINDER: Riverside High School Senior Citizen Concert

The Riverside High School Student Council will be hosting their Annual Senior Citizen Program on Wednesday, December 18th from 12:00 until 2:15. Deadline for reservations is Wednesday, December 4th The event is free to all senior citizens and will consist of the High School Band, Choir and elementary choir students performing in the High School Auditorium followed by a Holiday Dinner. Riverside Christmas Angel Drive Looking For Gift Card Donations This Holiday Season

The Riverside Christmas Angel Program is trying something new this year! The drive is looking for gift card donations in any denomination to help support the many local Riverside families in need. They can be gift cards for groceries, clothing, stores, restaurants, and anything in between. Drop off location: Franklin Township Municipal Building 897 Route 288, Fombell, PA 16123 Gift cards can be placed in the lock box located outside or you can mail to the address above. Cubs Scouts Hosting Winter Coat Drive

The Arrow of Light (Fifth Grade) Den of the Ellwood City Pack 806 Cub Scouts is hosting a winter coat drive. They are collecting gently used men’s, women’s and children’s coats which the boys will deliver to the New Castle City Rescue Mission in December for distribution. Collection bins have been placed at Ellwood Ice on Lawrence Avenue, the Ellwood City Municipal Building, and Ellwood City Public Library.
