VIDEO: Worker Dies After Falling From Tree

A man died Tuesday in an accident while cutting down a tree on the 400 block of Division Avenue. According to reports, a tree branch fell loose and hit the ladder underneath him causing the man to dangle from a rope around 30 feet in the air. Ellwood City Fire Chief Rick Myers said he didn’t hit the ground but suffered cardiac arrest. He was hanging upside down for about 20 minutes until rescues could lower him to the ground. The man’s identity hasn’t been released.

PHOTOS: Panthers Claim Playoff Spot During Senior Night Victory Over New Brighton

Riverside made easy work of the visiting Lions Friday night and claimed a playoff berth with their 52-7 blow out victory over New Brighton. The Panthers raced out to early leads of 20-0 after one quarter and a 40-0 advantage at halftime in the Midwestern Athletic Conference action. Riverside (4-4 overall) will close out its regular season on the road Friday (10/28) across town against its rivals at Helling Stadium in the Ellwood City Senior Night game. In a video remastered and made available by the Ellwood City Area Historical Society, Ellwood City celebrates its Diamond Jubilee in 1967. See yourself, a relative or someone you love?  Comment below! The nearly one hour full video below showcases a parade through downtown Ellwood City among other featured businesses.  The Ellwood History YouTube.com channel has the video broke into three segments for further viewing.  The videos have thousands of views since its first posting earlier this month.

PHOTOS: Wolverines Defeated By Tigers, Brooke Roth Crowned Homecoming Queen

Sophomore Elijah Palmer-McCaine rushed for another 115 yards and two touchdowns for the host Wolverines, but it was not enough to overcome a Tigers aerial attack as Ellwood City was defeated 42-13 Friday night at Helling Stadium in a WPIAL Class 2A Midwestern Conference game. ELLWOOD Visits Lawrence County High Schools as Part of Manufacturing Week

Last week, representatives from ELLWOOD visited with students throughout Lawrence County to celebrate Manufacturing Week, a lead-up to National Manufacturing Day celebrated Friday, October 7, 2022. ELLWOOD joined with the Lawrence County School to Work to coordinate the effort of reaching each high school in the county over the four-day period. Manufacturing Day is celebrated each year on the first Friday in October and is the manufacturing industry’s biggest opportunity to educate students, inspire the next generation of creators and promote the many career opportunities available in manufacturing. PHOTOS: Riverside Homecoming Game, Panthers Fall To Western Beaver

The Riverside Panthers were defeated Friday night 49-21 by Western Beaver at Riverside Memorial Stadium. Running back Tyson Florence had a big game for Western Beaver, scoring six touchdowns in the victory over Riverside. The home game was the Riverside Homecoming with Elizabeth Frazier crowned the Riverside 2022 Homecoming Queen at halftime. The Golden Beavers improved to 6-1 on the regular season with the Riverside Panthers fell to an even 3-3 on their regular season campaign.

PHOTOS: Riverside Panther Night 2022

Riverside School District held its annual Panther Night Thursday evening at Riverside Memorial Stadium. The program included the introduction of the Panthers fall sports programs and the Riverside marching band. Across town, Ellwood City held its annual Pie Festival at Lincoln High School. The LHS marching band performed selections from their 2022 pre-game and halftime shows and all Ellwood City fall sports teams were recognized. PHOTOS: Franklin Township Annual National Night Out

Franklin Township Police & Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual National Night Out Tuesday evening at the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. The event featured kids activities, fire safety, prize giveaways, and food vendors. National Night Out began in 1984 in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Annual Arts, Crafts, Foods & Entertainment Festival Returns!

After a two year hiatus, the annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Foods & Entertainment Festival returned to Ewing Park over the holiday weekend. Thousands of visitors flocked to the grounds to enjoy local food, crafts, and plenty of entertainment. Fireworks were displayed Sunday night. A juried art show returned, while an official festival mascot was named – L Woodie – and three new members were inducted into the festival hall of fame.

Riverside Class of 2022 Set to Graduate Friday

Riverside High School Class of 2022 is set to graduate 110 seniors. Graduation will be Friday, June 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Riverside High School football field.  Rain date is scheduled to be Saturday at noon if necessary.
