PHOTOS: Ellwood City Annual Arts, Crafts, Foods & Entertainment Festival Returns!

After a two year hiatus, the annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Foods & Entertainment Festival returned to Ewing Park over the holiday weekend. Thousands of visitors flocked to the grounds to enjoy local food, crafts, and plenty of entertainment. Fireworks were displayed Sunday night. A juried art show returned, while an official festival mascot was named – L Woodie – and three new members were inducted into the festival hall of fame.


Riverside Class of 2022 Set to Graduate Friday

Riverside High School Class of 2022 is set to graduate 110 seniors. Graduation will be Friday, June 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Riverside High School football field.  Rain date is scheduled to be Saturday at noon if necessary. Lincoln High School Top Nine And Graduating Class of 2022

The Lincoln High School graduating Class of 2022 will receive their diplomas Thursday June 2nd, during a ceremony scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Sgt. Leslie H. Sabo Jr. Memorial Auditorium. Lincoln High School is graduating 102 students with nine students receiving high honors. Students will follow 2021-22 classes for the last time on Wednesday and underclassmen will receive their 2022-23 schedule during first period. Warm temperatures met the onlookers at the annual Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade held Monday, March 30, 2022. After a wreath was placed into Connoquenessing Creek to start the Memorial Day observance, the parade trailed south across the Veterans Memorial Bridge (5th Street bridge) to the steps of the Lincoln High School Auditorium where it headed west on Crescent Avenue before returning down Lawrence Avenue and ending at the Legion Memorial Park near Circle Playground.

Rescue crews spent hours overnight searching for a man who reportedly went over a hillside in Lawrence County. A KDKA news video says 34-year-old victim was shot in the chest and was found by first responders. Dozens of different careers were on display at North Side Primary last week as part of Parent Career Day on May 5th. School to work director, principal and 28 different careers were on display for 5, 6, 7 and 8-year-olds. Baby cows, goats, military, tow truck, engineers, EC Forge, EC Fire, Chippewa PD, Vinny’s, a welder….to name a few! North Side Primary School is a K-2 building in the Ellwood City Area School District. Mr. Dan Parson is Elementary Principal/Federal Programs Coordinator.

Ominous skies surrounding Sanders Field Tuesday afternoon when the Ellwood City Wolverines were set to host Mohawk for the second game of their home-and-home series with the Warriors. The afternoon started with senior recognition for the five Wolverines seniors prior to first pitch, but the game was not able to be completed. The game was halted at a pivital junction due to rain and will resume Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. with Ellwood City leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning. The Ellwood City baseball and softball teams both earned victories on Monday. The Lady Wolverines earned a resounding 10-0 victory over Beaver Falls as part of their Senior Night festivities. The boys baseball team will look for a mini sweep and to match the softball senior night victory when they host Mohawk on Tuesday at Sanders Field in Ewing Park. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Season Begins!!!

The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation (ECABF), one of western Pennsylvania’s oldest amateur baseball programs, held their 73rd Annual Opening Day on Saturday at the Ewing Park Baseball Complex. Players from the Little League, Minor League, Farm League and Tee-Ball League participated in a parade to Freidhoff Field-the home of the first Little League program, in Lawrence, Beaver, Butler and Mercer counties. Seventeen teams, led by Mayor Anthony Court, were greeted by the Ellwood City Wolverines’ Head Coach Chris Weisz, his staff and varsity players. ECABF board member Mike Widmaier greeted the players, coaches and fans before the ceremonies began….

The Ellwood City Wolverines track and field teams earned victories over Union Area this past weekend at Union. For the boys, in its 105-44 victory, Brennen Marsh (200m) 26.1., Anthony Spadafore (400m) 59.5., Marley Schwiger (800m) 2:11.5., Nolan Currain (1600m) 5:30.1., and Kaiden Schlicenrull (3200m) 12:20.8. earned first place finishes for Ellwood City. Brayden Hendrickson collected individual first place finishes in the 100 hurdles (18.9) and 300 hurdles (50.0) to help the Wolverines.
