Helen McElwain, beloved wife of the late Harold L. McElwain passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Helen was born on June 14, 1921 in Philadelphia, the daughter of Francis J. and Gertrude Cahill Cavanaugh. Helen and Harold met while he was stationed in Philadelphia during WWII. They married on March 11, 1944, and after his discharge from the Army Air Corps they made their home in Ellwood City. Helen’s four children survive: Floyd H. Mrs. Mary Barry Ferrante, 104, of Ellwood City, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Abbotts Creek Center, Lexington, North Carolina. Mary was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1915 to the late James Lee Barry and Loretta Vita Barry Giardine. Mary was also the loving step-daughter of the late Cecil (Cesare) Giardine. Mary was a member of Lincoln High School, class of 1933, and the Holy Redeemer Parish. Margaret “Peggy” Anne Karner of Wampum passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the age of 86. Born September 23, 1933 to John and Margaret Karner, she lived most of her life in Wampum, residing most recently at Carriage Manor in New Castle. Peggy attended Wampum High School where she enjoyed playing the clarinet in the band. After high school, she worked in the office at Medusa Cement before embarking on a nearly 40-year career with Penn Power. Michael C. Ingram, 71, of Ellwood City passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 14, 2020 at his residence. Born July 17, 1948 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Harold and Ruth Ryhal Ingram. He was married to Kathleen Foster Ingram, for 45 years. She survives. Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling to different campgrounds with his wife. He worked for many years as a foreman and laborer in construction. He cherished times spent with his family and leaves behind his dogs, Kody, Luke, and Nikita. Phillip G. Hoak of Franklin Township, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020 following a motor vehicle accident. Phillip was born on August 26, 1986 in New Castle to Sherri Hoak and Kevin McCormack. He attended Riverside High School. Following high school Philip enlisted into the United States Army on August 23, 2011 and was discharged October 20, 2015.
