Breaking News: Fire at Breaking Bread

Updated: 10:22a.m. Fire and police officials are currently responding to a fire call located at Breaking Bread in Ellwood. Workers and customers have been evacuated. A fire official said it seems likely that something in the oven caught on fire, however as of now, it appears that little damage has occurred. Update: It was a small fire that was extinguished quickly.

Bad Check According to the criminal complaint, Donald A. Mitcheltree Jr., 33, of West Pittsburg, is facing charges for passing a bad check after he passed an invalid check to Feezle’s Auto Wrecking on February 1, 2016, in the amount of $275.34, which was returned with a bank fee of $15.00 along with a certified letter holding a fee of $6.74. No restitution was paid to the victim. The total amount of damages concludes at $297.08. Franklin Township Warns of Recent Vehicle Break-ins Police are requesting all residents to lock vehicles at night and to avoid leaving valuables in cars after a series of vehicle break-ins at night in Franklin Township. Two Ellwood Residents Arrested for Outstanding Warrants According to the police report, Amanda Lee Hasan, 26, of Ellwood was arrested Tuesday for an outstanding bench warrant related to drugs. Police Reports: Criminals Beware, Ellwood City is Protected by Bounty Hunter with Air Gun

According to the police report, two self-proclaimed bounty hunters were stopped in Ellwood on Monday night after an officer noticed their vehicle had a burnt out taillight and the bumper was scraping on the ground every time the vehicle hit a bump. When the officer pulled the vehicle over and asked the driver for the vehicles information, the driver and passenger both pulled out a badge on a chain from under their shirts and stated they were agents and that the back seat passengers were in training. Police: Uni-Mart Retail Theft

According to the police report, on Oct. 20 the pictured male stole merchandise from the Uni-Mart in Ellwood. A “handful” of Blow Pops which cost .25c each, and a bottle of Listerine Mouth Wash which cost $5.59 was stolen by the actor who fled the scene after being confronted by one of the store personnel. Police are still searching for the man and encourage anyone with information regarding the incident to report it. Police Issues Discussed at the Council Meeting

Several police-force related questions and comments were brought up at this weeks council meeting. Foremost, Judy Dici, one of the council members, asked when the Borough plans to hire a part time officer to help remedy the overtime hours some of the officers are currently getting; according to what was discussed at the meeting, the Borough is still reviewing applications and remain active in the process of hiring a part time officer. DUI’s According to the criminal complaint filed on October 11, Brian Adam Kent, 24, of Ellwood City, is facing charges of driving under the influence and DUI: highest rate of alcohol (BAC .16+) after he was stopped October 4 for erratic driving through Ellwood. The responding officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol emitting from the vehicle and the defendant stated he was drinking that night. Wurtemburg-Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department Fire Prevention Week

The Wurtemburg-Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department hosted their annual Fire Prevention Week open house on Wednesday, October 12th, from 6-8PM.
