Wurtemburg United Methodist Second Saturday Soup Supper November

The Wurtemburg United Methodist Church will have a ‘Second Saturday’ Soup Supper on October 10 from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. Soups include stuffed pepper and veggie beef. There will also be Italian bread, homemade rolls, dessert, beverages, and refills. Dine-in and take out are both $5. Children under 5 are free. November 3 Election: EC Borough Candidate Profiles

The Ellwood City Borough Council may travel back a few years pending Tuesday’s election results. Five candidates are running for three positions. As two candidates are incumbents and two are former council members, it is likely the council will reorganize in December with an old composition. Five candidates are running for five positions. Barring the unlikely chance of a successful write in campaign, the five candidates will be sworn in this December. However, the school board will see a substantial reorganization as three newcomers will replace three members who chose not to run for reelection. In Pennsylvania, school board candidates do not run on party platforms, so all five will be listed on both the Democrat and Republican tickets. Jim Hendricks, International Christian Pianist, In Concert!

Jim Hendricks, International Christian Pianist, will be performing at the Wurtemburg Methodist Church on Saturday, November 15 at 4:30 p.m. The concert is open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken and refreshments provided afterwards. Jim Hendricks has performed more than 1,200 Christian concerts in churches all across the land, including three appearances at the Crystal Cathedral. He has authored a book, made 13 piano recordings and performed on ABC, CBS, TBN, and PAX. Hendricks will also be playing during our regular 10:20 a.m. worship service. Senate Ag Committee to Consider Industrial Hemp Bill

The Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, chaired by Senator Elder Vogel, will consider legislation to allow the growth of industrial hemp during a meeting set for 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, in Room 8E-B of the State Capitol East Wing. Senate Bill 50, introduced by Senator Judy Schwank, provides for an industrial hemp industry in the Commonwealth through the establishment of a permitting process within the Department of Agriculture to license and regulate the cultivation, growth and sale of industrial hemp. Local Companies to Present “Katharina Von Bora,” an Original Opera

The New Castle Lyric Opera, in collaboration with Opera Westminster, will present the premiere performance of the pop opera “Katharina von Bora” on November 7th. The opera was composed by Mihai Valcu, resident opera conductor at Westminster College, with a libretto by William Zeiger. It will be performed in English. The cast includes both Westminster students and talented vocalists from the region. Katharina von Bora, a former nun who became the wife of Martin Luther, was an important figure in the early history of the Protestant Church. Pudue LaCava hosted the Lincoln Class of 1954, “Life is a Beach” committee at her Mt Vernon Drive home on Thursday, October 15 at 4 p.m. The session began with lunch made and provided by committee. A pasta salad made by Paul Abraham was accompanied by ham, vegetables, and fruit trays. “Pinky” Maielli provided a pumpkin pie type dessert.
