November Crime Watch and Mayor’s Advisory Meeting Briefs

Mayor’s Advisory Meeting The Mayor’s Advisory met on Nov. 19 with the committee discussing vandalism, drugs and concerns about the robbery at B&B (North Sewickley). Also discussed was the possible drop in crime in and around the Loop Street area. The committee as a whole believes that the cameras placed in this area played a major role in the decreased crime rate, although statistics show crime has dropped throughout the borough, regardless of cameras. Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. – Evening Book Discussion Group for Adults. The group will discuss the book, “The Husband’s Secret,” by Liane Moriarity. More information is available by calling the library. Christmas Arrives in Wampum Dec. 3 and 5

Mark your calendars! This Thursday at 6 p.m. is Wampum’s Light Up the Town and on Saturday at 1 p.m., the Wampum Area Christmas Parade makes its 43rd march through the town. Light Up the Town – Attendees will enjoy how Wampum has yet again reinvented their “Light Up the Town” with the addition of a 15 minute pyrotechnic display donated by a longtime Wampum supporters Mimi and Jerry Davis. The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Nikol Damato as the November 2015 Student of the Month at their membership meeting Tuesday evening at the Connoquenessing Country Club. Nikol is a senior honor student at Lincoln High School and a member of the National Honor Society, Peer Leadership and Student Council. She attends Christ Presbyterian Church and serves as the club officer for the high school March Of Dimes (Co-President/Secretary), the History Club (Vice President) and Y-Teens (President). Join Senator Vogel for Holiday Open House

State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. is inviting area residents to kick-off the Christmas season with a holiday open house at his Rochester District Office located at 488 Adams St. on Friday December 4 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event is part of the “Beaver County Holiday Celebration Weekend” sponsored by the Beaver County Recreation and Tourism Department. Come in from the cold and enjoy some cookies and holiday joy with Senator Vogel. Let There Be Lights Weekend

The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting Let There Be Lights weekend, December 4-6. The weekend is comprised of several events beginning Friday, December 4 with Light Up Night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Lawrence Avenue between Fourth and Sixth Streets. Peggy’s Floral in Wampum Meets Every Floral Request with Beauty

Peggy’s Floral has been a staple in Wampum since 1960, when it was opened by Peggy Rychlicki as the perfect place to pick up a bouquet on the way home or order just the right flowers for a prom corsage. Over the years the store evolved and became not just a florist’s shop, but an eclectic gift shop as well. Super Soren needs a Wheelchair Van

This adorable 3-year old is Soren Flook. He had a drowning accident on July 1, 2014, was without oxygen and heartbeat for an extended period, then, miraculously revived. He does, however, have resulting brain damage, leaving him unable to walk, talk or eat, and he has numerous health struggles. The family is in dire need of a wheelchair van to get him to his appointments.
