MacDonald Voted New Council President and New Members Sworn In

George Celli, Judi Dici and Marilyn Mancini were sworn in at the Ellwood City Borough Council reorganization meeting yesterday. Celli and Dici were elected after serving on council in previous terms and losing elections in 2013. They replace Ralph Chiappetta and John Todorich, who ran unsuccessfully for re-election. Incumbent Mancini won re-election, so the new council is more-or-less an old council. Mayor Anthony J. Court administered the Oath of Office and proceeded over the opening ceremonies until a new president could be elected. Both the president and vice-president elections were contested. Veterans’ Specialist to Visit Gibbons’ Office Next Week

State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, today announced he will host veterans’ specialist Stephanie Bengoa in his Ellwood City office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 to lend help to veterans and their families. Bengoa, of the American Legion’s Veterans Assistance program, will be in Gibbons’ office to assist veterans with understanding what benefits they have earned, filing appeals to existing claims, enrolling in the Veterans Administration health care system and any other question regarding benefits. Gibbons’ Ellwood City office is at 438 Line Ave. No appointment is necessary. Constituents with questions can contact Gibbons’ office at 724-752-1133.


ROAR Presents Masters of Magic Show

Riverside Outdoor Athletic Renovation (ROAR) will be holding magic show fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 16. The show will feature the Mystic Magicians of Beaver Valley: Dave Lawrence, Ray Lucas, Bob Mullins, Don Moody, Bill Cornelius, Brad Brown, Dick Rectenwald and Frank Kietzke. The show will be held at the Riverside High School Auditorium. At 6:30 p.m., there will be a close-up magic show followed by a stage show at 7:30. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Senator Vogel Reappointed Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman

Senator Elder Vogel Jr. was reappointed today by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati to serve as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. The Committee is the Senate’s authority on all legislation involving agriculture and provides review and oversight of regulations proposed by the PA Department of Agriculture. Police: DUI and Bad Checks

DUI Passenger Threatens to Call Mayor According to the criminal complaint, Larry Anthony, 60, of Ellwood City, was charged with a DUI and failure to stop at a stop sign. The incident occurred on Dec. 20 around 12:45 a.m. when an officer observed a vehicle run a stop sign. Although Anthony’s passenger verbally scolded the investigating officer and threatened to call the mayor, it was to no avail.
