Community Members Concerned About Electric Bills if Hospital Closes

Updated 8/23/16 at 2:16pm. In order to keep its doors open, Ellwood City Hospital is still in search of a partnership. This alone is a concerning topic considering that it’s the closest hospital for Ellwood and surrounding area residents, however, many residents are equally concerned that if the hospital closes they may see an even greater hike in their personal electric bills. The hospital generates a lot of revenue for the borough, if it is to close, it will no longer provide a large portion of the electric revenue. Breaking News: North Sewickley Fire- Man Airlifted to Pittsburgh Hospital

Emergency responders were called to the scene of a blazing fire Monday morning. The fire happened at a Pete Brown’s Garage, located at 284 Glendale Road in North Sewickley. The owner had to be airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital due to his injuries. According to fire officials, the fire was ongoing and a challenge to control due to oil and tires located in the garage. The cause of the fire is speculated to be electric related, due to workers claiming they heard “popping” around an electrical box earlier in the morning. Ellwood City Man Threatens Relatives with Knife for a Second Time

According to the criminal complaint filed on 8/16/16, Adam Pounds, 24, of Ellwood City fled from police, on foot, after an altercation Tuesday the ninth involving him threatening his brother with a knife. Officers were advised by dispatch that Pounds had fled prior to their arrival. When the officers arrived on scene they searched the area for Pounds, later finding him on a trail at the rear of the Moose Club. Officers advised Pounds, who was about 25 yards away, to get on the ground so they could detain him. Pounds decided to continue fleeing which lead officers to deploy…

Standing Up to Ellwood Electric- Updates

In previous posts we have introduced the Facebook group, Standing Up to Ellwood Electric. It’s a group consisting of local community members that are concerned about the increased electric rates. Dave Gulish, the founder of the group, has been regularly checking on the status of the issue and makes relevant information available to the public via his site. Yesterday he updated his site, posting one image of a scanned document he obtained from the county municipal building. Police Report: Adderal Stolen in Burglary

According to the police report, on Monday night officers were called to the residence of 520 Second Street in Ellwood. The victim stated that she came home and heard foot steps and noises in her house. She said there was a trail of “wet” footprints, which she cleaned up before police arrived, and the screen on the upstairs window was popped out. It appeared that the burglars may have entered the house by climbing onto a steel crate located around the back of the house giving them the ability to reach the roof, thus allowing them to force their way…

Class of 1954 August Meeting

Pudue La Cava hosted the 1954 Lincoln Class “Life is a Beach” committee for a wrap-up meeting at her residence on Thursday, August 11. The session began with lunch provided by committee members, Ann Amadio, Paul Abraham, Arlene “Pinky” Maielli, Ilene Gardner, Glemmy Sirimarco, and La Cava. Gardner and La Cava served, Gardner later shared her birthday cake- prepared for her by Maielli. Abraham conducted the business session that followed. Notification of Tax Office Hours in August

Mary Ann Portugallo, Ellwood City tax collector located in the municipal building, informs the public that school discount is usually due by August 31 but is now extended to September 15. Her office will remain regular – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Former Councilman Pleads Council to Oppose New Water Treatment Plant

With recent incidents involving contaminated water sources all across America, it’s not surprising that former councilman, Ralph Chiappetta, wanted to address his concerns at the Monday council meeting regarding the new water treatment plant that is supposed to be replacing the old one- affecting many Ellwood City residents. His concern with this is that the plant will be supplying water to homes from the Connoquenessing Creek and Beaver River instead of where the water is currently supplied from, the Slippery Rock Creek. 8/15/16 Council Brief: Motions and Concerns

Last night council had their monthly agenda voted upon. Before the motions were read, a few visitors had some concerns they addressed to council. Paul Dici brought to the councils attention that the Freedom Health Care company lot, in Ellwood, is not being properly kept up. He said there are “weeds four feet high”. Bob Villella responded to Dici’s concern saying that he had been in contact with the owner of the property already and it was supposed to be cleaned up last weekend, however if it wasn’t then he would get in contact with the owner again.
