September’s Regular Meeting Brief

The monthly regular meeting was held last night; many things were voted on and discussed. The meeting started with a call to order followed by the roll call, Major Court was absent. There were two commendations, Jim Spielvogel was awarded the Operator Ingenuity Award, and Christ Presbyterian Church was recognized for 125 years of service. Previous Ellwood Resident Asks Borough Manager To Resign

Dave Gulish, a previous resident of Ellwood and activist against the current Ellwood Electric situation, attended last nights council meeting in order to publicly state his concerns. Gulish was the first of the visitors to speak, he started by asking Bob Villella, the borough manager, what changes have been made to the electric bills and the electric company window hours; he gave the example that he received a late fee on his most recent bill, however, he never got it in the mail, and he claims that the electric company was fully aware of him never receiving the bill. Corona D’Italia Lodge’s September Meeting

Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 resumed their monthly meetings on Wednesday, September 14 at 5p.m. at Pizza Joe’s. The session began with a pizza luncheon hosted by the Lodge and served by Sentinel Lois Di Frischia, Trustee Patty Regna, and Member Mary Jane Folino. Treasurer Louise Vitullo was honored for her September birthday. Orator Valerie Valentino provided fall table and place mat decorations and presented candy flavors to each member in attendance. 37th Annual Lawrence County Marching Band Festival

Lincoln High School will be hosting the 37th annual Lawrence County Marching Band Festival on Wednesday September 21 at 7p.m., doors open at 5:30p.m. The following school bands will be participating in the event: Lincoln, Shenango, Mohawk, Union, Neshannock, Laurel, Wilmington, New Castle, and Westminster College; each band will be performing samples of their half time shows. Lincoln High School Blue Band Boosters will be selling concessions and having a bake sale. You can send candy grams for $3.00 or cookie grams for $2.00 to your favorite band member. Windy Ridge Dairy Trying to Breed Out Proteins that Cause Milk Intolerance

Windy Ridge Dairy is one of the most popular dairy stores in the Ellwood City area. The store rests at the edge of their 150 acre farm, mainly consisting of corn fields and their dairy producing cows. Lindsey, one of the store owners, said that they have roughly 80-90 cows, 40 of which are used as milk producers. They always have fresh milk for sale and at different times of the year they provide different varieties of milk and ice cream flavors. For the fall season their most popular flavor is pumpkin. The 15th Annual Story Telling Festival

The 15th annual Story Telling Festival, brought to you by Ellwood City Public Library and supporting sponsors, will be hosted in Ewing Park on September 17 from 4p.m. to 7:30p.m. The storytelling stage will feature talented performances from Jocelyn Dabney, Mike Kennelly, Bill Pate, Michael Perry and Joanna Demarest. Performances will be followed by 15 minute intermissions, a perfect time to enjoy free activities like horse drawn trolley rides, face painting, strolling minstrels and balloon art. Mayor’s September Advisory Meeting Brief

At the Mayor’s September 2016 Advisory meeting, several topics were discussed between the board members. There have been numerous complaints about quads speeding on Wampum Avenue and Woodside Avenue. There are still some concerns involving scams going around that target our elderly, specifically the IRS scam and the Publishers Clearing House scam. If you have elderly family and/or friends in the area, talk to them about these scams so that they do not become the next victims.
