Annual Memorial Day Parade Set For Monday

Monday will be a day to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. Three Community Projects in Beaver and Lawrence Counties Awarded Over $53,000 from the State Environmental Education Grants Program

Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) announced three community projects in Beaver and Lawrence counties have been awarded over $53,000 from the state Environmental Education Grants Program. “Providing children and young adults with opportunities to learn about the importance of being environmental stewards is essential to aid conservation efforts for the future,” said Vogel. “These local projects will help achieve that goal.” Beaver County RiverWise was awarded $19,180 to host a “Summer Sustainability Institute” for middle and high school students, who will be engaged in hands-on learning, create video interviews, and write sustainability-themed articles. North Side Primary 2nd Grade Students Hosting Lemonade Stand

North Side Primary will be hosting a Lemonade Stand to help its students become young entrepreneurs. Second grade students will be hosting the lemonade stand on May 27-29 on the school playground – rain or shine! Pink and yellow lemonade will be available as well as popcorn. Sugar-free lemonade will be available upon request. 2025 Primary Election Unofficial Results: Ellwood City Borough Council; Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors

Unofficial results from yesterday’s May 20, 2025 primary have been posted. Lawrence County According to Lawrence County’s website, there were 15,258 ballots cast in Lawrence County. Of those, 6,938 were Democratic and 8,320 were Republican. The total voter turnout was 26.69% with 34.77% being Democratic and 27.81% being Republican. Click here for full unofficial results. Borough To Begin Enforcement Of High Grass & Weeds

Spring is here and June is just two weeks away. Grass is growing and many homeowners are attending to their property. April started yard waste pick-ups for borough residents. According to information made available by the Borough Code Enforcement Office, and due to the large amount of rain we have received, the borough has extended a grace period to the enforcement of HIGH GRASS and WEEDS. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Elementary Students Host Pizza Day

120 Sixth-grade students participated in a pizza project that culminated last week as they ventured to local pizzerias Vinny’s Restaurant and Johnny’s Pizza Shop. Elementary Computer Teacher Matt Skoczylas and School Counselor Christina Mendillo organized the project. Skoczylas had completed a pizza project unit with Ellwood City 6th graders before but, according to Mendillo, wanted to expand the project and turn it into an actual simulation. The spirit of community came alive during Ellwood City Community Days as second grade students from the Ellwood City Area School District took part in an educational and fun-filled day that gave students the opportunity to explore and connect with the people and places that help make Ellwood City a strong community. Ellwood Historical Society Awards Scholarships

Four local high school seniors were awarded scholarships by the Ellwood City Area Historical Society on Monday night. DeLanna Fox (Riverside H.S.), Kailyn Hamilton (Lincoln H.S.), Hannah Hyde (Commonwealth Charter Academy), and Sara Schwarz (Lincoln H.S.) each received $1,500 toward their continuing education. Fox and Schwarz won Marlene Painter Scholarships with essays on “Why I Want to be a Teacher.” Hamilton and Hyde were winners of the Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarship. Hamilton’s winning essay was titled “Effects of COVID on a Small Town,” and Hyde wrote on “The Closure of the Ellwood City Hospital.” The Robert and Janice Barensfeld…
