United Fund Campaign Extended To End Of January

The Ellwood City United Fund board is appealing for help as the year 2019 is past and the goal for the 2020 campaign is short, $16,900. The board will extend the fundraising campaign until the end of the month. The board request that if you haven’t given and you can, please give today. There are many who depend upon us and other charities for the financing of programs that help the Ellwood City community and families. Celli Named Ellwood City Council President

George Celli will serve as Ellwood City Council president for 2020-2021. During its reorganization meeting Monday, council voted 4-3 to elect Celli. Councilman James Barry will serve as vice president following a 4-3 vote. Councilman Rob Brough and Councilwomen Lisa Guerrera and Judith Dici voted “No” to both nominations. Newly elected council members Celli, Caleb Cragle, and Dici were sworn into office. Council also set the meeting schedule for 2020. Acclaimed Local Artist and Author to Share Her Personal Journey at January’s Meeting

January’s guest speaker at the Ellwood City Area Historical Society’s monthly meeting on the 13th will be acclaimed local author and visual artist, Lynda McKinney Lambert. A retired Professor of Fine Arts at Geneva College, Lynda’s poetry and non-fiction essays have been published in a variety of literary journals, anthologies, and academic writings, as well as her personal accomplishments that are featured in several books. Lynda’s unique personal story involves her sudden and profound loss of sight in 2007 that she had to overcome through intensive rehabilitation. (Butler, PA) Butler County Community College will host the nation’s longest-running multicultural song and dance company when the Tamburitzans – “high-energy” university and technical school students spiraling in a “kaleidoscope of colors” to Old World and world music – return to Succop Theater on Jan. 17 and for the first time since selling out the 442-seat venue in 2018. Gordmans Announces Hiring Event

In anticipation of a previously announced changeover from Peebles to Gordmans, there will be a hiring event hosted at all 23 Gordman locations in Pennsylvania this month. While the changeover will be official at all Peebles locations in Pennsylvania on February 18, corporate owner Stage Stores Inc. announced the event will be on January 7 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Locally, the event will be held at the Franklin Plaza on Route 288 and at the store in Neshannock Township at 3332 Wilmington Road. Borough Christmas Tree Disposal Information

When the gifts are all unwrapped, and the leftovers have been in the fridge for a few days, most people begin to take down their festive decorations. For those with live trees in their homes, the end of the season means trying to figure out where to dispose of the Christmas tree. Announced Friday, Borough residents can take their trees to Stiefel Park through January 31 for disposal.
