Longtime Local Grocery Store Loccisano’s To Close; To Re-Open As Shop ‘n Save

For over a century, residents of Ellwood City have gone to locally owned and operated Loccisano’s for any and all of their grocery based needs. People have come miles to fill suitcases and coolers full with the meat they sell. However, this week, the business that has lived in this town since 1916 announced its upcoming closure.  The grocery store will close after business on Sunday, August 16, 2020.  The store will reopen as Dave’s Hometown Shop ‘n Save on Monday, August 17, 2020 under new local ownership. “All Aboard Ellwood” Comes Rolling In

A local group that calls themselves “All Aboard Ellwood” began 3 years ago in hopes to be able to commemorate Ellwood City’s once thriving railroad industry. The community focused volunteer group was able obtain a piece of property at the corner of Fifth Street and Spring Avenue which started the next phase of their plain; gaining a rail car of some type or a replica of a historical railroad building. Allegheny Aquatic Alliance Presented Proclamation

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented a proclamation to the Allegheny Aquatic Alliance on July 29th, 2020. This outstanding group established in 2009 has been known for “Connoquenessing Creek Clean Up,”-Removing over  500,000 pounds of trash and over 5,500 tires from the creek. In 2018, Mayor Court presented the group with a plaque that marked “I couldn’t be more proud of a group of individuals! The time and effort put forth by Allegheny Aquatic Alliance is astonishing. Calvin Presbyterian Announces Free Sub Giveaway

Calvin Presbyterian Church will be giving away Italian Subs from Venezia’s on Saturday, August 8. The subs are completely free and can be picked up from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm in the church parking lot. Penn State Master Gardener Hosting Basic Training Class

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County will be hosting a Basic Training Class beginning Fall 2020. There will be an Informational Meeting to discuss the Training Class along with addressing any questions candidates may have. PHOTOS: New Wooden Bridge Constructed In Ewing Park

In July, a new little attraction was added into Ewing Park – a cute little wooden bridge surrounded by hand painted rocks and some flowers. The idea was born in the spring by the Director of Public Works, Randy Gatto. Gatto wanted to create a peaceful place for families to use as a memory maker. He hopes it’ll be used for family portraits or even for recently engaged couples to take pictures at. #6 Winner of The Beautification Award

Mayor Anthony J. Court announced the final winner for the 2020 Beautification Awards. Winner #6 is Sam Barry of Madison Avenue. Congratulations, Sam, on a job well done. Sam was presented with a yard sign and a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Mayor Court thanks all of the citizens who submitted nominations this year and stated it  was “another successful year for this program!” “Congratulations to all  the winners and I am already looking forward to next year which will be the 11th year of this successful program,” said Court.
