Ellwood City Post Office Renamed in Honor of Sgt. Leslie Sabo Jr.

Senator Bob Casey was the featured speaker at a ceremony on Monday to rename the Ellwood City Post Office in honor of Medal of Honor winner Sgt. Leslie H. Sabo Jr. The rain held off during the sunny ceremony at 11:30 a.m. yesterday in front of the Post Office. Members of Sabo’s family, various politicians and Ellwood locals gathered around to hear several guest speakers. Sabo was killed in action in the Vietnam War and received the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award, for his actions during the Cambodian Campaign. Fresh Take Foods Shares Owner’s Love of Food and Community

Michael Dillow finds food brings out great conversation and brings people together. He’s been working in the food service industry his entire adult life and has recently opened Fresh Take Foods, located on 810 Second St. The take-out restaurant opened April 2, although it will celebrate a grand opening April 15. The Charlie Hogan Tournament is a memorial for the late Charlie Hogan of the 1991-94 mite and squirt level PAHL Championship teams with the Indiana Youth Hockey Association. When Jared Show traveled to Ellwood City to film Bigfoot the Movie, he had no idea that his hometown would be so accommodating. “I was amazed at how supportive and helpful everyone was,” Show said. For the past several years, Carmike Plaza 6 in Big Beaver has been drawing smaller crowds than its competitors, largely due to the emptiness of Plaza 6. As a result, the theater announced January will be its final month of operation. Although the theater was not in Ellwood City, it was part of the community and social life.
