As many of you can most likely recall, EllwoodCity.org’s previous journalist, Jonathon Cortez, posted months earlier bringing almost constant updates about St. Agatha’s destruction in order to build a new CVS Pharmacy; he even wrote a lengthy opinion piece about his thoughts of it. Boy Scout Proposed Community Project to Council

Christopher Brant is a 17 year old Boy Scout member who attended last nights council meeting and bravely presented his proposed community project to council. Brant started by introducing himself, “My name is Christopher Brant and I am a Boy Scout of Troop 806 here in Ellwood City. School Teaches Students About 9/11 With Service Dog

Ellwood City’s North Side Primary School has “service learning projects” scheduled throughout the year to teach the students about their community. Today at the primary school, Jessica Herr, an AmeriCorp worker, set up a service learning project to introduce the students to the tragic events that took place in New York City on September 11, 2001. According to the ASPCA website, though it’s impossible to get an exact number of stray pets in the USA, it is estimated the numbers of stray cats alone reach into the 70 thousand range. Local Artist Invites All to See His Dinosaur Replicas

George Shean, a disabled veteran living on Rhode Island Avenue in Ellwood, encourages all in the area to come by and view the replica T-Rex skeletons he has designed and displayed on his front lawn. There are currently two replicas, one is a large T-Rex which stands six feet tall, four and a half feet wide, 23 feet in length and took roughly eight months to complete, then there is a smaller T-Rex, reaching a maximum length of nine feet, that stands guard over their replica T-Rex nest. Heat Doesn’t Deter Good Works: Carpenter’s Project 2016

Despite an exceptionally hot, humid week, volunteers weren’t deterred from the Carpenter’s Project. Throughout the week, over 100 volunteers divided into 18 crews will work on an estimated 100 projects at 58 houses. The Carpenter’s Project is a volunteer, community organization that provides external repairs to the houses of the elderly, disabled and others who are unable to perform the work themselves. Projects range from painting (the most predominant), to porch railings, demolition, concrete pouring and yard work. The Carpenter’s Project is formed by a collaboration of local churches.
