Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Monday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. YMCA Activities at the Ellwood City Veterans’ Memorial Pool

Since the Ellwood City Veterans’ Memorial Pool is a hot-spot for activity during the summer months, The Beaver County YMCA will be hosting classes, lessons, and events throughout the summer season. “This is a prime opportunity for community members, especially those with children, to partake in social and beneficial activities while still having loads of fun,” a YMCA team member said. Ellwood City has never seen so purple in it’s life – the Relay for Life event which took place on Saturday, June 10, was a success according to Relay for Life member, Jackie Kline. “We had a good turn out and lot’s of support from the local community, I think overall the event was a success and we hope it’ll get even bigger in the years to come.” This was the first Relay for Life that took place in downtown Ellwood, in previous years the event was hosted at Helling Stadium. Along with Relay For Life moving to downtown Ellwood City, an idea formed about doing a sidewalk chalk art contest.  Team North Sewickley Walkers took the challenge on putting together this first time event.  As Saturday June 10, 2017 dawned relayers awoke to thunder and rain, upon arriving downtown Lawrence avenue our sidewalk area was wet.  We hope it will dry by noon or the chalk may not write on the squares, thank goodness it dried.  The young artist started to register at noon and went right away to work creating their works of art each with a bag of…

VIDEO: Hartman 5th & 6th Graders Create Story-Telling Robots

During the past school year, Mr. Marsh and Mr. Skoczylas, teachers at Hartman, have hosted 2 after-school robotics club for 5th and 6th grade students at Hartman Intermediate School. Students have created robotic animals, birds, and dinosaurs out of cardboard and other craft materials – they then “program” their creations to move and light up using a circuit board called a Hummingbird Kit. After dedicating four three-hour days to their last project of the school season, the students showcased their creations at the Ellwood City Area Library Friday morning. Ellwood City Summer Playground Program

Children ages 5-13 will be meeting weekdays from 10a.m.-2p.m. at the Ewing Park shelter #5 for the borough’s Summer Playground Program, starting June 12-August 10 (excluding June 29-July 4 for the Arts and Crafts Festival) and will be partaking in activities such as kayaking, yoga, and other summer activities.
