6th Annual Connoquenessing Creek Cleanup

Calling All Volunteers & Supporters! The 6th Annual Connoquenessing Creek Cleanup is approaching! Please help us restore this important waterway back to its beautiful, natural state by removing the physical garbage that consumes it. The Connoquenessing Creek is polluted with tires and garbage and in 2000 it was rated the second most polluted waterway in America. 275,125 pounds of garbage and 2,600 tires have already been removed since the start of the clean-ups! Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities For Week of July 31, 2017

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Monday, July 31, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” designed to help reduce the stresses of everyday life. Art On The Avenue Expected To Be a Hit

Judging by how well last year’s Author Fair went, library director Veronica Pacella expects Art on the Avenue to be just as popular. “It was such a hit last year, everyone had a great time. We had upwards of 250 people attend the Author Fair last year, the library was so crowded I couldn’t even get to all of the authors to speak with them because they always had a crowd around their table,” Pacella said. “We had 25 authors last year and we will have 28 artists this year – so we expect an even bigger crowd.” Art on…

Franklin Township’s 5th Annual Community Day National Night Out

Franklin Township is hosting their 5th annual Community Day National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 1, from 6-9p.m. in the Franklin Plaza. There will be free children activities including face painting, balloon twisting, bounce house, inflatable slide, at petting zoo. There will also be fire safety training, CPR instruction, food vendors, and Iceburgh from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Ride to Benefit Special Needs Children

The God Chasers Motorcycle Club is hosting their annual ride to benefit children with special needs on July 29, starting at 12p.m. Every penny of the funds raised goes to the Lawrence County Special Olympics. Event organizer Reverend Mike Wimer is a father of a highly functioning 28 year old daughter with down syndrome, and he has been hosting the motorcycle rides for nearly 15 years. “My daughter Morgan has been in the Special Olympics since she was about 10 years old, and watching the event really touched me and my wife’s heart, so I decided I wanted to support…

Shop for Suicide Awareness

What more could a girl ask for – shopping while benefiting a good cause! Ellwood City LuLaRoe retailer, Samantha DeJoseph is hosting a clothes-shopping fundraiser for the benefit of the American Foundation for Suicide Awareness (AFSA). “The Human Services Center has put together a team of people to walk in the Lawrence County Out of the Darkness Walk on September 16th, and this fundraiser is to help the HSC crew raise money for AFSA,” DeJoseph explained. Return of the Color Run

The Ellwood City Color Run was such a hit last year that the organizers, Stacie Hackett and Kim Rangel, decided to do it again this year. “It was a huge success last year with over 150 runners – everyone was dosed in color having a great time and we raised a lot of money for the cheerleaders,” Hackett stated. Art on the Avenue: Celebration of the Arts

The library is hosting an Art on the Avenue: Celebration of the Arts event on Friday, July 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. This is the library’s second annual Celebration of the Arts; last year, they hosted a wonderful author fair with 250 people in attendance. This year’s event will be very similar in nature; 28 local artists will be participating and will be placed around the library in an easy-for-folks-to-browse style.
