Ellwood City Historical Society Annual Picnic

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will host its annual picnic beginning at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 in Ewing Park’s shelter No. 8, which is located in the back loop of the park. The event is open to the public and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish to share and their own table service. The society will furnish the meat, drinks and dessert. The guest speaker will be Dan Vogler, Lawrence County commissioner chairman, who will talk on two subjects. What’s Open for Labor Day?

Labor Day, which often marks the end of summer for many outdoor activities such as public pools, is this Monday, September 4, 2017. Labor Day is a federal holiday which means federal buildings are closed including post offices and government buildings. Libraries, banks, most organizations and small businesses (including some pharmacies) will also remain closed. To find out if a business will be open for Labor Day, call ahead. Meter parking will be waived in observation of the holiday. Story Telling Festival: Into the Woods

Ellwood City’s sixteenth annual Story Telling Festival will be taking place Saturday, September 16 from 4p.m.-7:30p.m. at Ewing Park. The event is free to attend. Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: The library will be closed on Monday, September 4, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Join Senator Elder Vogel Jr. for his 55+ Senior Expo

Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. would like to invite all area seniors and their families to attend his free Senior Expo on Friday, September 15 at the Cascade Park Pavilion, 1928 E. Washington St, New Castle. Big Knob Grange Fair Starts Today

The seventy-fifth annual Big Knob Grange Fair starts today, August 29 and goes though September 2 at their Rochester location, 336 Grange Road, 15074. The event features agriculture, horticulture, home arts, entertainment, food and more. Admission and parking are free, rides are $15.00 for unlimited riding all night.

Good Samaritan Hospice Butterfly Release

Good Samaritan Hospice is hosting a butterfly release at 2p.m. on Sunday the 27, at the Four Seasons Pavilion at Brady’s Run Park in Beaver Falls. Anyone is welcome to release a butterfly to honor and celebrate the memory of a loved one. Participants are asked to reserve a live butterfly in advance for $10 each.
