Rosenberger Throws No-Hitter To Oust Fort Cherry; Wolverines Fall To Yough

Riverside Panther pitcher Samantha Rosenberger was brilliant in the pitcher’s circle on Tuesday, as she tossed a four inning no-hitter to lead Riverside past Fort Cherry 14-0 in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A softball playoffs at Peterswood Park. The senior hurler struck out 13 batters and did not issue a walk in the stellar pitching performance that earned the Lady Panthers its first playoff victory in a decade. Aliya Garroway says she needs $600,000 to make her idea become a reality. The Lincoln High School senior pitched her business plan for a “high-ceilinged” indoor baseball and softball complex in Lawrence County to be called “No Off-Season” to Ellwood City business leaders, and to community college educators and administrators April 28 as one of eight students to complete the 2022-2023 Riv-Ell Entrepreneurship program. Ellwood City Borough Council Approves Dunkin’ Facility, Drive Thru

Ellwood City Borough Council approved requests by Fifth and Spring, LLC in regards to a Dunkin’ fast food restaurant at the intersection of Fifth Street and Spring Avenue. Council unanimously approved the 2,060 square foot facility as well as a drive thru contingent on the following conditions: No egress permitted onto Fifth Street from the Dunkin’ parking lot; right hand and left-hand turn from the drive thru lane onto Fifth Street; And moving a curbside pickup spot to the middle of the parking lot. REMINDER: Mayor Court Beautification Award Nominations Underway

Mayor Anthony J. Court will once again be doing beautification awards for Ellwood City. Nominations are now being accepted by dropping the request off at the Mayor’s office in the Municipal Building on Lawrence Avenue or by calling Mayor Court at 724-824-7629. Nominations will be accepted beginning May 10, 2023 and program will end on the 1st of August. Riverside Girls Track Knocked Off In WPIAL Quarterfinals, Look Towards PIAA District 7 Championships

On a muggy, gray Western Pennsylvania afternoon early in May the Riverside Girls Track & Field Team finished in third place in the 2023 WPIAL Class 2A Track & Field quarterfinals. The Lady Panthers were defeated by Greensburg Central Catholic and Winston Thurston on May 4th, coming in third place out of the four team quarterfinal pod. Western PA Soap Box Derby, a fun family event, is Saturday June 3rd, 2023 in Ambridge, PA on 14th Street. VIDEO: Route 18 Reopens After Train Derailment In New Castle

Pittsburgh – PennDOT District 11 has announced a portion of Route 18 has reopened after a closure to traffic due to an overnight train derailment in the City of New Castle on Thursday, May 11th. Nine Norfolk Southern train cars derailed near its intersection with Route 18 between Mt. Jackson Road (Route 108) and Blanchard Street.  PennDOT personnel were on scene to assess the condition of the roadway once the rail cars are removed. The New Castle Fire Chief said no hazardous materials were in the cars — one was carrying soybeans and another had paraffin wax. Some of the…
