The unbeaten Wolverines season came to an end Friday night as Ellwood City was defeated by South Park 28-7 in the WPIAL Class 2A semifinals at North Allegheny High School. After gaining and early advantage the Wolverines were torched by chunk plays by the #2 seeded Eagles rushing attack who posted a resounding 376 yards rushing in its victory. Lucarelli Signs With Duke University

Riverside Panther standout pitcher Christian Lucarelli officially signed his commitment to pitch at Duke University on Wednesday afternoon. The 6′ 3″ 215-pound senior is ranked the #3 player in the Pennsylvania 2025 class (111 nationally). The right-hander started and led the Panthers to a WPIAL Championship and PIAA Class 3A title in 2023. Lucarelli struck out seven batters across 3 2/3 innings in May but the Panthers could not repeat as WPIAL Champions, falling to Avonworth in an epic 14-inning championship game. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: Tyler Good, 24, of Cranberry Twp is charged with Theft after an incident occurring during the dates of 5/23/24 and 6/30/24. According to a criminal complaint, police spoke to the victim on September 19th at approximately 12:37 p.m. and the victim explained that he contracted Good to replace his retaining wall and that they had come to an agreement to have the wall finished within five days. The victim paid Good $9,400 for materials to begin the job on May 23rd and an additional $3,600 on June 5th after Good would finish. Good had failed to complete the job…


ECASD Board of Directors Approve Retirement of District Superintendent

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors reluctantly passed a motion to accept the retirement of District Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley during Thursday evening’s regular meeting. As the motion was made, there wasn’t an easy second. Board President Jennifer Tomon said she is happy for Shipley but sad for the district. Shipley will continue to serve as superintendent until June 30, 2025. Shipley said serving the district and students has been a pleasure. Route 488 Portersville Road Drainage Improvement Work Begins Thursday in Perry Township

Pittsburgh – PennDOT is announcing drainage improvement work on Route 488 (Portersville Road) in Perry Township, Lawrence County, will begin Thursday, November 14 weather permitting. Former Ellwood City Resident Pleads Guilty to Charges Related to the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

A former resident of Ellwood City pleaded guilty in federal court to charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced on November 7th. Shayne Clapper, 30, pleaded guilty to five counts before United States District Judge William S. Stickman. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that in January 2023 through February 2023, Clapper initiated a sexual relationship with a minor known to him. Clapper provided the minor with a cell phone that he used to communicate with the minor. Clapper requested and received nude images from the minor….

Elijah Palmer-McCane tallied 150 yards of total offense and accounted for both Ellwood City scores Friday night as the Wolverines survived a scare from #6 South Allegheny and escaped with a 13-12 quarterfinals victory in the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs. Ellwood City Subject To 30-Day Open Outdoor Burning Ban

As part of the monthly meeting of the Lawrence County Commissioners that took place Thursday morning, the board discussed and adopted a Countywide Burn Ban. The ban does include Ellwood City and our surrounding areas.
