Brown Says Penalties Should be Imposed for Falsely Reporting Threats, Emergencies Toward Schools

HARRISBURG – Legislation that would create felony criminal penalties for falsely reporting emergency threats directed toward any educational facility in the Commonwealth has been introduced by Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence). “It is not acceptable to manipulate our law enforcement system to cause chaos, frighten students, terrorize families and put many people in harm’s way,” said Brown. Brown noted that shortly before the Easter holiday this year, and following a tragic school shooting in Nashville, TN, a person terrorized communities in our region including New Castle High School, with a series of false reports to law enforcement of active school shootings….


Ellwood City Wolverines 2023 Fall Sports Tickets Now Available

Tickets for the Ellwood City Wolverines Fall Sport Season will be sold on-line at www.gofan.co or the GoFan app. Ellwood City will be slowly making the change to digital ticketing for all sports. There will be no tickets sold at the school at this time according to the district. There will be a limited amount of Adult tickets, $5.00, that can be purchased at the gate for each home game this season. Senior Citizen tickets will still be sold at the gate for $1.00. There will be no Student Tickets sold at the school or at the gate this season….

Mayor Court Presents Proclamation to Eagle Scout Matthew Gebhardt, Jr.

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented a proclamation to Eagle Scout Matthew Gebhardt, Jr. on Friday, August 18th. Matthew was found worthy of the rank of Eagle Scout and was honored. The Eagle Scout rank represents the highest advancement in scouting fulfilling requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. Matthew Gebhardt, Jr. will be a senior at Portersville Christian High School and will be graduating in 2024. Borough Council Extends Invite to ECASD Board of Directors to Discuss Softball Field Location Options

Speaking on behalf of the Borough of Ellwood City, Borough Solicitor Ed Leymarie said during Monday night’s meeting that the borough would be glad to meet with the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors to discuss an alternate location for the girl’s softball field. Leymarie said the borough has received numerous phone calls with complaints about the Ewing Park School property location, which is the site that was chosen unanimously by the ECASD’s Board of Directors. “We are prepared to enter into a long-term lease if the school is interested,” he said. Mayor Anthony Court Recognized by Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania

Ellwood City’s Mayor Anthony J. Court was recently recognized for his service through the Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania. During the August 14 Borough Council meeting, Court was presented the prestigious award by Zelienople Mayor Tom Oliverio who was representing the organization. Oliverio and the Association noted Court’s outstanding and excellent service as President of the Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania in his two-year term. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: Thomas Reed, 36, of New Castle, is charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking after an incident on July 28th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 9:03 a.m. police received a call from a victim in regards to credit card theft and who related her debit card was stolen from her husbands vehicle while he was at work. The complaint relates one of the victim’s son’s friends stole the card and used it to make several purchases at different locations for a total of $110.00. The Ellwood City golf team returned to action less than 24 hours after picking up their first victory on the season in section play as they took on the Beaver from Delmar on Wednesday and collected its second victory of the young season. Sophomore Jordan Keller continued to his phenomenal early season play with a round of 36 to lead the Wolverines to its 201-219 victory over the Bobcats.
