Lake Forest Gardens, Sturges Orchard To Receive Agriculture Innovation Grants

HARRISBURG – Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) announced this week the approval of three state grants to improve agricultural innovation in Beaver County. Vogel said the following Agriculture Innovation Grants are being awarded by the state Department of Agriculture: Lake Forest Gardens of Fombell will receive $24,600 for automating tree-grading and sizing. Tiny Seed Farm of Rochester will receive $75,000 for the development of an integrated, sustainable farm-to-sale innovation plan. Ellwood Area Family Center Hosting Youth Golf Program

The Ellwood Area Family Center will be hosting a youth golf program beginning in late February. The golf program will be held at the Ellwood Area Family Center on the North Side of Ellwood City on Tuesday evenings beginning on February 18th.  The clinic will run four five consecutive Tuesdays and will be available for ages 9, 10 and 11. Beaver County Solar Farm In North Sewickley Township Denied Zoning Application

A proposed Beaver County solar farm in North Sewickley Township was denied a zoning application last Thursday. The proposed farm would be built on roughly eighty acres of wooded area. The company leasing the land, Penn Renewables, made its case in front of the zoning board and members of the public at the townships monthly. Penn Renewables partners with landowners and local communities to develop renewable energy projects that are environmentally friendly and safe. Wolverines Rout Sto-Rox, Jones Hits 1,000 Career Points

Kayla Jones poured in 15 first half points to lead Ellwood City to a comfortable 74-39 victory over Sto-Rox Thursday night at Lincoln High School. The scoring performance helped Jones top 1,000 career points. The senior guard finished 5-10 shooting with one 3-pointer, two rebounds, and three assists Thursday in the non-section contest. The Wolverines pounced early, scoring 30 first quarter points with Jones accounting for eight points and Delaney Sturgeon adding 12 points. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

HARASS PHYSICAL CONTACT: Brandon Falen, 50, of Ellwood City, is charged with physical harassment after an incident occurring on January 20th at a residence on Laurel Avenue in Wayne Township. According to a police report, and at approximately 7:34 p.m., police were dispatched to an active domestic involving Falen and his 24-year-old daughter and 22-year-old son. According to the report, Falen had struck his daughter and son with a broom and a hammer which caused minor injuries. 2025 Historical Society Scholarships Submission Details Announced

The EllwoodCity Area Historical Society will award four (4) fifteen hundred dollar ($1,500.00) scholarships this year. All graduating seniors living in the Ellwood City Area School District or the Riverside School District are eligible. Applications and requirements may be obtained from either high school Guidance Counselor, or from the Ellwood City Area Historical Society.
