New Dimension Comics Presents Pittsburgh Comic & Collectibles Show: Butcon

Pennsylvania comic book chain New Dimension Comics presents its annual convention, the Pittsburgh Comic & Collectibles Show, in Butler. The convention will be held Saturday, Feb. 13 at Clearview Mall (Butler) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the mall’s center court. Attendees can take advantage of our freebies and giveaways. Former Congresswoman Melissa Hart today endorsed conservative Lawrence County businessman and farmer Aaron Bernstine for the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 10th district. This marks the first major endorsement in the Republican primary. Hart, who served the 4th Congressional District, which encompasses the 10th State House district, was the first Republican woman to serve in the state’s congressional delegation. Fire Destroys The Ranch

The Ranch, a Wayne Township restaurant and bar, was destroyed in a fire yesterday afternoon. The fire originated in the kitchen as a grease fire shortly after 1:30 p.m. and spread to the entire building. Nine fire departments rushed to the scene as state police directed traffic. By 2:30, the fire had gone through the building’s roof. Firefighters from Wayne Township were still at the scene at 6:30 p.m. Fire companies that responded include Wayne Township, Ellwood City, Wurtemburg-Perry Township, Chewton, Frisco, Portersville, Shenango, Slippery Rock Township and North Sewickley Township. Weekly Basketball Recap: Ellwood City Girls Defeat Hopewell in Conference Game

The Ellwood City girls basketball team played two conference games this week, losing a close away game to Beaver 42-35 on Monday, Jan. 25 and defeating Hopewell 51-30 at a home game yesterday. In Monday’s game, the Lady Wolverines trailed Beaver 38-24 by the third quarter. However, a fierce counterattack in the final quarter gave Ellwood 11-4, closing the gap but not enough to even the score. For Ellwood, Breonna Streit and Karrington Ketterer led the offense with 11 points each. Nine of Streit’s points came from three-point shots. Police: Stealing Personal Checks

Stealing Personal Checks According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 27 of 2014, Drew Hall, 26, of Ellwood City had reportedly removed several checks from the residence of the victim, who is the grandmother of the accused. Hall then cashed the checks to multiple Woodforest Bank locations, which he signed in the victim’s signature without permission, totaling to $460. Aspen Institute Names CCBC One of the 150 Best Community Colleges in America

Local Projects Receive More Than $1 Million in State Grants

Four major projects to improve recreational facilities in Beaver and Butler counties will receive state grants totaling $1,090,000, according to Senator Elder Vogel (R-47). Brighton and Darlington townships in Beaver County and Lancaster Township and Zelienople Borough in Butler County will receive Community Conservation Partnerships Program (CCPP) grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, according to Senator Vogel.
