Defeating a team three times is no easy feat, and the Ellwood City softball team had to do just that in the first round of playoffs. “It is always tough to play a team three times in one season, especially a team like Neshannock with the success they have had in the past,” head coach Gary Rozanski said. Riverside Mercy Rules Steel Valley in Second Round of Playoffs

In yet another mercy rule victory, the Riverside baseball team shut down Steel Valley 10-0 in the second round of the playoffs yesterday. On Tuesday, Riverside had done the same thing, with the same score, to New Brighton. Riverside earned 10 runs in the first four innings. After neither team scored in the fifth, the game ended via the mercy rule. Police: Brother and Sister Rob Laundromat, Michigan Man Caught with Prescription Pills

Brother and Sister Rob Laundromat A brother and sister were charged with stealing from a laundromat. According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 30, 2015, Desiree Elizabeth McQuiston, 28, of Beaver Falls and Joshua Raymond McQuiston, 29, of Fombell, stole money from vending machines and washing machines at Snowy White Laundry on Portersville Road in Ellport. Investigating officers watched security camera footage which showed a female and male enter the building around 11:30 p.m. The two proceeded to smash machines to steal the money until around midnight. Ellwood City Family Video Closed Operations on Monday

The Ellwood City Family Video, located on 807 Lawrence Ave., closed operations on Monday. The store’s function will be absorbed by two other Family Video locations in New Castle and New Brighton. Employees at the Ellwood store will keep their jobs at the other locations. The Family Video chain, based in Glenview, Ill., owns the property, which will be rented to DaVita Kidney Care, a division of DaVita Health Partners. The following is a brief summary of the borough council meeting held on May 16: Awards/Recognition Nikol Damato, junior council member, was recognized for her year of service on council. Jozek, Ellwood’s K-9 who is retiring this month after nine years of service, was recognized by council, the Lawrence County Commissioners, State Police and Jarret Gibbon’s office. Gibbons Introduces Budget Continuation Bill to Keep Funding Schools and Social Service Agencies if Impasse Occurs

HARRISBURG, May 17 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, has introduced a bill (H.B. 2077) that would fund schools and human service agencies if a budget is not enacted by the July 1 deadline to start the new fiscal year. Under Gibbons’ bill, if a budget is not successfully enacted by July 1, all line items from the previous year’s budget will continue to receive funding equal to that of the previously enacted budget, with the exception of the Governor’s Office, the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, the Senate and the House of Representatives. Riverside Mercy Rules New Brighton in First Playoff Game

The Riverside baseball team had a fantastic start to the Class AA playoff season. In five innings, they mercy ruled New Brighton 10-0. A strong offense consistently got on base throughout the game. Austin Dambach and Cristian Cicchinelli each had two runs while Cicchinelli, Braden Bentel and Michael Boswell contributed three hits. Cicchinelli, Ricky Wass and Dylan Speicher each had two RBIs. Kaufman House Renovation Project Receives $500,000 State Grant

Zelienople, Pa.- Efforts to restore the historic Kaufman House in Zelienople received a significant boost in the form of a $500,000 state grant, according to Senator Elder Vogel.
