The Ellwood City Wolverines used an early cushion to easily cruise to a 59-34 victory over New Brighton Tuesday night while the Riverside Panthers found their stroke from the free throw line to hold on and beat Aliquippa 61-59.  With victories for both squads, Ellwood City (8-7 overall) next travels to Riverside (10-6 overall) for their second meeting of the season – with playoff implications on the line. Ellwood City United Fund Ends Jan. 31

The United Fund is closing its 2017 campaign officially on Jan. 31, which started on October 1, 2016, coming up over $9,358 short of its goal of $50,000. The money raised is distributed to the agencies that service the needs of the area and community. The United Fund released its final disbursement for the year 2016 to all agencies. It was hoped that the disbursement will carry the agencies through the winter months. Bernstine to Serve on Four State House Committees

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today announced he was assigned to serve on the House Aging and Older Adult Services, Finance, Health, and Game and Fisheries committees during the 2017-18 legislative session. POLICE: Two Charged With Marijuana Possession

Two Charged with Marijuana Possession Joseph Edward Haybarger, 20, of Ellwood City, and Anthony Booker, 18, of New Castle, were both charged after an incident that occurred on Jan. 17. According to the criminal complaint, an officer was traveling behind a vehicle operated by Haybarger when the officer noticed the passenger side window was down and the smell of marijuana was emitting from the car. The officer stopped the vehicle and as Haybarger opened his driver side window the smell of suspected marijuana was again emanating from the vehicle. Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 January Meeting

Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their monthly business meeting on Wednesday, January 11 at 5p.m. at Pizza Joe’s. President, Clemmy Sirimarco presided over the session that began with a pizza luncheon served by Sentinel Lois DiFrichia and Mary Jane Folino.
