Short Game from Tallest Golfer May Spark BC3

Butler, Pa – It’s the short game and short memory from the tallest player that Bill Miller has coached in his 14 years with the Butler County Community College golf team that may loom largest in BC3’s bid to claim its fifth consecutive Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference title and ninth overall. Michael Rozzi, a 6-foot-6 Neshannock High School graduate, averaged a 79 in 2016-17 in helping an all-freshman squad to an 8-1 finish and BC3’s eighth straight winning season. School is just around the corner – first day of class for Lincoln High School students is Wednesday – and the players of the fall sports are gearing up for their first games of the year. Father Charged with Child Endangerment After Incident Involving Marijuana

A 21-year-old father is facing charges of endangering the welfare of children, along with a charge of a DUI, possession of controlled substance and possession of an offensive weapon after an incident that occurred on July 22. According to the criminal complaint, an Ellwood City police officer was patrolling the Ewing Park area after it was closed for the night, noticing a vehicle traveling towards the back of the park near the gates that were already secured. Pollution Control Project Funded in Lawrence County

Lawrence County Conservation District received $2,000 to implement a Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Project. “This grant allows our conservation district to address local pollution issues. We plan to educate local residents on how they can do their part to ensure there is enough clean water for future generations,” said Katie Schmidt, Watershed Specialist. Education and outreach about the project began in May of this year, and the District is continuing to look for volunteers. Training will occur in the fall and the project will be continued indefinitely afterward. Thirty-seven projects will be funded in 31 of the state’s counties. Projects…

Ellwood City Art Club Fair

The Ellwood City Art Club will be hosting their Art Club Fair on September 9, from 10:30-2:30 at their new studio location, The Family Center in Ellwood City. Participants will be able to dabble in a variety of art forms including painting, writing, photography, computer applications, and more. No experience is necessary and teachers will be on hand to help. There is no cost or age limit. Weekly classes are for high school students and up. Some special classes will be for younger children.

On Friday, 8-25, The tax office located in the municipal building will be closed, it will reopened on Tuesday 8-29, Wednesday 8-30, and Thursday 8-31 from 10a.m.-3p.m. The office will be closed Friday 9-1.

Ellwood Woman Hired to Help Around House Suspected of Stealing Medication

Adriana Michelle Contreras, 33, of Ellwood City is facing charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property after an incident on July 20. According to the criminal complaint, an Ellwood City resident called to report a suspected theft. The victim stated his wife had a condition for which they had personally hired a Contreras to help around the house. The victim stated he suspected Contreras was stealing pills from his Adderall prescription and that since the prior week he had noticed several of the pills missing. Rosalindo Morales Jr., a 23-year-old Ellwood City native, reigned champion in his first professional boxing match on Saturday, August 12 at the Rivers Casino, against opponent Adam Young of Memphis, Tennessee. He won all four rounds unanimously against Young and said he couldn’t have done it without all the local support. “The fight was incredible and the support I had from everyone from Ellwood was truly amazing and I couldn’t have done it without them,” Morales stated.
