Thanks to the courtesy of the Ellwood City Historical Society, they have provided us with a box full of old photos that we will now be using for Old Photo Friday! Today’s feature is the 95ft cake served on Lawrence Avenue in 1987 for the town’s 95th birthday celebration. Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of October 2, 2017

 Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Monday, October 2, through Saturday, October 7 – The library’s Annual Book Sale will take place. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Monday will also feature a bake sale. A wide variety of books, DVDs, Audio CDs and more will be available at the sale. Ellwood City Fall Fest: 6,000 People Expected to Attend

If you thought last year’s Fall Fest was crowded, this year is expected to be even more populous according to Borough Manager, Bob Villella. “This year there is expected to be at least 600 vehicles at the car cruise and upwards of 6,000 in attendance. That’s an increase of nearly 2,500 people since last year,” Villella stated. Sick Puppy Given Away with Dog Crate

Gentle Ben’s Giant Breed Rescue, a dog rescue in Zelienople, recently acquired a very unhealthy 11 week old puppy who was given away with a dog crate that was being sold. “Kelly, a very good friend mine, saw this sweet boy on some type of farm ad where the owner was selling a crate and said a puppy came with it. The ad indicated the puppy was a Fila Brasilerio, which is a type of mastiff. Lion’s Club Fountain Reappears After Years of Absence

After years of absence, the Lion’s Club water fountain is back in Ellwood City – bigger and better than ever! On the corner of Lawrence and Sixth, a brightly colored lion statue sits, donated by the kindness of one of the Lion’s Club founding member’s daughter. After nearly 30 years in the community, the old fountain had to be taken down due to wear and tear about 5 years ago. The club then started fundraising for a new fountain and the daughter of Floyd V.
