Man Charged with Throwing Items at Occupied Vehicles

WAYNE TOWNSHIP — Police have identified James John McDonald, 43, of 1052 Main St., Wampum, as a suspect. McDonald threw an iced tea bottle at an unmarked state police cruiser. There have been many reports made to local police about suspects throwing items at other cars while driving down the road. In an Ellwood City Police report, a man reported he was driving down the road when the car in front of him threw an object at his windshield, causing damage to the vehicle. BC3 and CCBC Come Together To Offer New Entrepreneurship Program to Ellwood City Area High Schools

On Thursday, May 17, officials from Butler County Community College, Community College of Beaver County, Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln and Riverside high schools had an announcing ceremony to kick off the RIV-ELL Entrepreneurship Program. The RIV-ELL Entrepreneurship Program is an enterprising partnership program between businesses, schools, colleges, service clubs and foundations in Ellwood City. Ten Lincoln and Riverside high school seniors this fall will be the first to capitalize on the new program. The students who participate will have instructors and mentors to guide the transformation of the students’ ideas into feasible business plans. The program is…

Beaver Lawrence Railway Historical Society Presents: The Train Day Festival

Beaver Lawrence Railway Historical Society is holding its semi-annual Train Day Festival at West Pittsburgh Train Station Saturday, May 19, from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission to the event is free and all proceeds from the event fund the train station restoration. The event will kick off with a touch a truck event, where people of all ages can interact with staff of local companies that have volunteered to have their “trucks at the tracks.” This festival will bring attractions like classic cars, and large vehicles from all industries together in one place. Elderly Ellwood City Woman Beaten and Robbed, Man Offers Reward to Help Catch Suspect

An Ellwood City man is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in his elderly aunt’s beating earlier this year in Lawrence County. Paul Boots found his great aunt, Delida Vicarri, 84,  one early morning last February in terrible shape on the back porch of her Ellwood City home. Vicarri was assaulted and robbed. Initially though, police investigating the case and Vicarri’s family thought that she had taken a bad fall. Her injuries were serious. Boots told media his aunt suffered a broken jaw, broken eye socket, she was kicked in her ribs and her legs were bruised….

Ellwood City Historical Society Membership Meeting May 14

   Everett Bleakney welcomed everyone to the May 14 meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society.  There were 36 in attendance. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Guy Prestia, a WWII veteran. Minutes of the previous meeting were read.  Motion to accept was made by David Barensfeld and seconded by Ron Geddes. Treasurer’s report was given by Charlie Brown with a beginning balance of $5807.24 and an ending balance of $5836.60.  Motion to accept was made by Ron Geddes and seconded by Louise Carroll. Traffic Stop Leads to One Arrest and One Citation

Taylor Foley, 21, was placed under arrest by Ellwood City Police for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and Kory Coles, 29, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct after a traffic stop led to a car search and field sobriety test. On May 11, Officers patrolling College St. attempted to make a right hand turn onto Ellwood Ave. and found a car parked at an angle preventing the movement of the cruiser. Would you like to “Walk to Honor” a loved one in this year’s Memorial Day Parade?

On the fourth Monday of May, patrons of Ellwood City will gather in the North Side neighborhood for the annual Memorial Day Parade through town. Youth organizations, marching bands, city and state officials, fire trucks, police cruisers, and other community members participate in the parade across town to Veterans Memorial Park where the closing ceremonies are held. Memorial is a federal holiday in the United States for remembrance of people, family members and friends who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. Ellwood City Council Agenda Brief

The following is a brief summary of items discussed at the Ellwood City borough council agenda meeting on Monday, May 14: Beechwood Blvd Address Added to Agenda Council member Michelle Lamenza requested a motion be added to the agenda to repeal a motion changing several Beechwood Boulevard addresses to Constitution Boulevard addresses. Earlier in the year, council approved these changes to make it easier for emergency responders to find specific addresses. Lady Wolverines Advance With Victory Over South Allegheny

The Ellwood City girls softball team advanced in the Class 3-A WPIAL Playoffs with a 4-1 first round victory over South Allegheny on Tuesday afternoon. Madi Krugh was the winning pitcher for the Wolverines. She went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two.
