Ellwood City United Campaign Fund Drive Announced

The Ellwood City United Fund Board announced its 2019 annual campaign fund drive. The campaign will start October 1, 2018 and conclude January 31, 2019. The Boards Selection Committee has chosen six service agencies to seek funds for the year 2019. The Agencies selected: City Rescue Mission, L.A.R.K. Enterprises, People-in-Need, Ellwood City Public Library, Human Services-Unicenter, and Rita Hazen Education Foundation. The Boy and Girl Scouts will receive an annual donation to fund the various programs that promote scouting. The Allocation Committee will review the agencies needs and allocate funds in January 2019. Monthly Mayors Advisory Committee Recap

On September 27, 2018 Mayor Court met with his Advisory Committee.  The Mayor stated the Borough’s war on drugs continues with 441 arrests to date. On October 6, 2018, Ellwood had celebrated October Fest, which has been a great success in the past. The Mayor will resume radio interviews on the radio, starting on Thursday, October 4, 2018 Cindy Mauro has donated $200 for supplies for Ellwood City’s K9 Ranger. PHOTOS: Ninth Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest

Unseasonably warm weather welcomed the hundreds of festival-goers at the ninth annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest held in Ewing Park on Saturday afternoon. The Ellwood City Wolves Club, Rotary Club of Ellwood City, Ellwood City Lions Club and Pete’s Uptown Beer and Beverage were major players in the annual event that featured over 100 kraft beers, plenty of food, and musical and other entertainment. In addition, the festival continues to see an increase in home brewers in attendance, with this year offering over a dozen different home brewers on the festival grounds showcasing their specialty brews.

PHOTOS: Panthers Fall To Mohawk In Homecoming Game

Congratulations to Sarina Steigerwald the 2018 Riverside Homecoming Queen who was crowned by the Crown Bearer Natalie Bologna at half time. In football action, the Riverside Panthers fell to Mohawk 34-18 Friday night in a Midwestern Conference showdown.  Both teams entered the homecoming contest vying for playoff positions. Warriors running back Braydon Cameron scored three times on the ground and defensively with an interception return of 80 yards to lead Mohawk (6-1, 5-1) to victory. Wolverines Use Offensive Attack To Down The Wildcats

The Ellwood City Wolverines offense was on display Friday night as the running back duo of Rick Pitrelli and Donavin Chambers combined for five offensive touchdowns on the night while racking up almost 300 offensive yards as well in the Wolverines big defeat of the Wildcats 42-14. Letter to the Editor: Ellwood Medical Center – Americore

How much do you know, or care, about what is happening at the Ellwood City Medical Center now operated by Americore, which was once our beloved community hospital? There’s been some news about Americore’s financial difficulties elsewhere, and according to Americore, they’ve been settled.  However, according to court documents obtained by The Lee Daily Register from the Supreme Court Clerk of New York the headline story reads “All Americore Hospitals Tied Up In Supreme Court Legal Battle.”  Specifically mentioned in the list: “Ellwood City Hospital, Ellwood City Medical Center LLC, Ellwood Medical LLC, Ellwood Medical Center Operations LLC.” Perhaps this…

Riverside Annual Haunted Hayride & Maze Scheduled

The Riverside annual Haunted Hayride, sponsored by Riverside Outdoor Athletic Renovation (ROAR) starts with a preview night on Thursday October 11th from 7:30-9:30p.m. The Haunted Hayride is one of several fundraisers conducted by ROAR throughout the year. Nearly 200 volunteers come together to create a fun event for the community, and over 1100 people enjoyed the experience. This year, Roar has had the assistance of a Riverside alumni, John Guerrini. Wet Weather Not Deterring Public Works Building Construction

Recent bouts of wet weather and some setbacks have not deterred the on going construction of the new Ellwood City Public Works building according to Dan Franus, the architect behind the new building. The decades-old Public Works building on Sixth Street, behind CVS Pharmacy, had been deemed too dangerous for workers and was scheduled for demolition in 2016.  In hopes of building a new Publics Works building in its place, the Ellwood City Council took out a $9 million bond, it had been issued in November of 2016 to begin the new build.
