Record 15 Riv-Ell Students Pitch Business Plans

A record 15 high school seniors profiting from a yearlong Riv-Ell Entrepreneurship Program pitched business plans April 25 that impressed Ellwood City area leaders and in pursuit of graduating from Butler County Community College on May 15 with a 16-credit workplace certificate funded by donors. The 11 Lincoln and four Riverside seniors in 2023-2024 represent the largest group to seek the post-secondary credential in a 6-year-old program that combines academic coursework with practical experiences. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Earns 3rd Place Finish At WPIAL Track & Field Championships

The Ellwood City boys track and field team placed third in the WPIAL Class 2A team championship at Peters Township Middle School on Tuesday. The Wolverines defeated Hopewell 79-61 to earn the third place finish. “I think many teams underestimated us this year and we proved everyone wrong,” said head coach Nate Brown. “We started with several postponed meets and my belief is the calendar beat us up pretty badly. Riverside Clinches Section Title, Ellwood City’s Playoff Hopes Dashed

The Riverside baseball team completed its critical two-game sweep of Mohawk on Tuesday, earning a 9-4 road victory and clinching the Section 1-3A title. The Panthers (13-1 Overall, 11-1 Section 1-3A) used a three-run homerun by Darren McDade in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Riverside got on the board in the third inning, scoring four runs without the aid of a hit. Registration for 2024 Summer Playground Program At Ewing Park

The Borough of Ellwood City will be holding its 2024 Summer Playground Program again at Ewing Park this summer. Registration will be held at Ewing Park, Shelter #5 on Thursday June 6th and Friday, June 7th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please bring the following information to registration: Proof of Borough residency (EC Borough electric bill or Borough Tax statement) Driver’s license or state ID and phone number of parent/guardian responsible for child Driver’s license number, and phone number of two additional people that will be allowed to pick your child up from the program. Historical Society Selects Scholarship Recipients

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society is pleased to announce the winners of the Robert and Janice Barensfeld and the Marlene Painter scholarships. Eleven students from Lincoln and Riverside High Schools submitted essays for these grants. The scholarships are available to any high school senior living in the Ellwood City area regardless of the school they attend. Seven students wrote about “A Prominent Person of the Ellwood City Area” for the Barensfeld award, established in honor of long-time prominent Ellwood City citizens Robert and Janice Barensfeld. Wolverines Outlast Shenango In 13 Innings; Hare Strikes Out 10, Homers For Panthers

In two pivotal playoff implicating match-ups on Monday, both local teams came out with big victories, putting more focus on Tuesday’s Class 3A-1 section games. Needing two victories over the Wildcats this week to earn a playoff berth, Ellwood City outlasted Shenango 6-3 in 13 innings Monday to earn the first victory in the two-game series. BC3, Guest Students Can Work Ahead, Save Through College’s Summer Courses

Butler County Community College’s nearly 150 summer session courses lasting four to 12 weeks will provide an opportunity for BC3 and guest students to complete required courses in preparation for the fall semester or to advance toward graduation, a BC3 administrator said. Wolverines Track & Field Team Eyeing WPIAL Championships

After its qualifying victory last week at West Mifflin, the Ellwood City boys track and field team will turn its focus to the WPIAL Championships on Tuesday. The team earned its first-ever playoff win knocking off five foes in the qualifier last Thursday. The WPIAL Team AA Championships will be held at Peter’s Township Stadium: Confluence Financial Partners Stadium beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
