Skyla Greco didn’t allow a single hit as Wolverines defeated Steel Valley 5-0 on Tuesday. To get the final out Greco struck out Veronica Sikora pushing her game total to 14 strikeouts against three walks in the contest. Wolverines took an early lead in the second inning. Borough Notice – Online Bill Pay Suspended

According to information made available by the Borough of Ellwood City this afternoon, and effective Monday, May 1st, the borough online bill pay will be suspended temporarily during a software conversion process. All utility payments must be made by cash, check, credit card or money order utilizing the mail, drop box or window service. The borough apologizes for any inconvenience.

The WPIAL announced their 2017 high school basketball playoffs Tuesday night with three local teams earning a playoff birth.  Both Riverside girls and boys squads made the playoff picture along with the Ellwood City boys basketball team. The Ellwood City Wolverines used an early cushion to easily cruise to a 59-34 victory over New Brighton Tuesday night while the Riverside Panthers found their stroke from the free throw line to hold on and beat Aliquippa 61-59.  With victories for both squads, Ellwood City (8-7 overall) next travels to Riverside (10-6 overall) for their second meeting of the season – with playoff implications on the line. For the Riverside Panthers, Friday night’s 28-26 victory over North Catholic was twice as nice as it secured second place in the Midwestern Athletic Conference and a home WPIAL Class 2A playoff berth as well as cemented a tone of revenge for last year’s blowout loss to the Trojans. PHOTOS: 2016 Ellwood City Pie Festival (indoors!)

Due to pending thunderstorms and wet weather forecasted to enter the area Thursday evening, the annual Pie Festival was moved indoors to the Lincoln High School large gymnasium.  The change was announced by the school early Thursday afternoon and later reported confirmed on Twitter, first by the Lincoln Blue Band account (@LHSBlueBand). The event is normally held at Helling Stadium, but precautions were taken by moving the event indoors this year. Lincoln High School Blue Band members and Ellwood City fall sport team members were announced.
