Baseball/Softball Recap: Ellwood City and Riverside Pick up Wins

The Ellwood City girls softball team won their first conference game against New Brighton 14-0 in a total shutout yesterday. The game was secured in the first two innings by 11 runs. New Brighton had no hits the entire game. Camille Maine had four RBIs, while the team total was 14. Freshman Anna Ferrucci had three hits and three runs, the highest for each. Pitcher Skyla Greco had 14 strikeouts and zero hits against. The Lady Panthers host Laurel tomorrow. Ellwood Area Egg Hunt Committee Announces Winners and Thanks Sponsors

The Ellwood City Area Egg Hunt Committee thanks everyone who made the 23rd Annual Egg Hunt possible. This year’s egg hunt had over 600 children and 6,000 eggs. Lawrence County Lightning Squirt Hockey Team Covert traveled to Cleveland Plays in the Rock and Roll Cleveland Cup Ice Hockey Tournament.

The Lawrence County Lightning Squirt Hockey Team Covert traveled to Cleveland this past weekend to play in the Rock and Roll Cleveland Cup Ice Hockey Tournament. The team is comprised of 16 kids from nine School Districts, four counties and two states. They play their home games at Hess Ice Rink in New Castle. On Friday night the Lightning matched up against the Pittsburgh Predators, where the team fought through first period jitters en route to a 4-1 win. Student Athletes Recognized at MAC Banquet

The Midwestern Athletic Conference held it’s 58th annual student athlete recognition banquet Wednesday night at the Fez in Hopewell. Each year the MAC honors one boy and one girl from each school district in the conference for displaying excellence on the field, court, classroom and community. This years recipients are Allie McKelvey and Nick Ioanilli from Lincoln High School and Morgan Bailey and Jason Dambach from Riverside. This year’s program, which included a Gala Buffet, was enjoyed by the students, family members, coaches and school representative from each district. The Ellwood City tennis team swept a match against rival Riverside on Monday. In singles, Ellwood’s Christian Mittica, Trey Houk and Patrick Pawlak defeated Panther opponents Tyler Squicquero, Tyler McDonough and Hunter Paff. The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City Borough Council meeting on Monday, March 21. Announcements There will be a special council meeting Thursday, March 24 at 8 a.m. to approve renovation plans for the rear of the Municipal Building.
