Foreign Exchange Student Revisits Ellwood After 37 Years

John Magargee and his wife Janice are pleased to welcome Soh Ping Summers, a foreign exchange student they hosted in the year 1978 to 1979, back to Ellwood City after 37 years! Soh Ping was a student from Singapore, Malaysia who joined a foreign exchange program when she was 18 and attended Ellwood’s very own Riverside High School, where she graduated with the senior class in 1979. Ellwood City Police Not Securing Home Game Tonight

It was mentioned in a previous post that Ellwood City School District is forced to hire private security instead of having Ellwood City Police securing the home games like they have been doing for years. The issue stems from the borough being unable to comply with the schools security needs at this time, mainly due to an ongoing uncertainty regarding how many officers they would need to hire per game. Ellwood City School District Forced to Hire Private Security for Games

There have been rumors going around that Ellwood City School District will no longer be provided with Ellwood City police officers for security at their high school sporting events, leaving it up to the school district to hire a private security company. Though Ellwood City’s Mayor, Anthony Court, confirmed the rumors to be true, he said said the issue is likely to be temporary. Rebecca Dembach is the visionary behind Hidden Gem Photography, located at 314 5th Street in Ellwood. In America the number of stray animals has reached epidemic proportions. According to the ASPCA website, though it’s impossible to get an exact number of stray pets in the USA, it is estimated the numbers of stray cats alone reach into the 70 thousand range. The ASPCA also lists other statistics regarding the importance of spaying and neutering pets: Fertile cats produce, on average, one to two litters of kittens a year. Community Members Concerned About Electric Bills if Hospital Closes

Updated 8/23/16 at 2:16pm. In order to keep its doors open, Ellwood City Hospital is still in search of a partnership. This alone is a concerning topic considering that it’s the closest hospital for Ellwood and surrounding area residents, however, many residents are equally concerned that if the hospital closes they may see an even greater hike in their personal electric bills.
