Private Investigators Promise Landlord Judgment Recovery

American Business Resource LLC (ABR), a local company staffed with qualified private investigators, has recently expanded their offered services to cater to a common problem for landlords – judgment recovery. Judgement recovery is often a tricky court settlement since tenants often times will leave without any further notice of address change or updated contact information, leaving the landlord at a standstill for receiving a settlement. “Landlords often end up in situations where they are stiffed, either their tenants don’t pay rent or their bills and the landlord is left to pick up the tab,” Dave Gulish, the company’s founder stated,…

Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck Conflict Predictions

Many local residents have mixed feelings about the almost-famous Punxsatawney Phil’s New Year prediction of six more weeks of winter. Although on average, sunnier winter days, which are more likely to cast the groundhogs shadow, are usually correlated with chillier and dryer weather – the old tradition which started in 1887 is not as accurate as it is fun. Last year Phil did not see his shadow, meaning that spring should have arrived early, however, it really didn’t arrive any earlier than normal. Phil isn’t the only groundhog used to predict the forecast, his rival, Staten Island Chuck, has been…

Lincoln High Wins First Bocce Match of the Season

The first season of bocce matches for Ellwood City’s Lincoln High School is already proving to be a success. Ellwood reigns champion against New Wilmington after their first and only home game, which included the support of the high school’s band and cheerleaders, on Tuesday night. The team of 12 students has been practicing since the beginning of December, and the coach says the students couldn’t be more excited about winning their first game. “I have several of the team members in my class and they have been so upbeat and excited since the win,” Mr. DiBuono, the coach said….

Suboxone Clinic Opens in Ellwood City

Controversially, a suboxone clinic located on Pershing Street only a few blocks from the hospital has recently opened as an attempt to combat opiate addictions in the area. After the positive results of operating another suboxone clinic at their Bridgeville location, Freedom Healthcare Services was requested to open another clinic for the cause in Ellwood City. Suboxone is an opiate derived alternative to help curve opiate addictions; the idea of the drug is that it allows the user a way of controlling their opiate craving while still allowing them the ability to focus on meeting their treatment goals. Despite the…

Construction on Koppel Bridge to Commence Jan. 30

Koppel Bridge, one of the most used bridges for Ellwoodians, is finally going to be replaced with a modern steel bridge; construction will commence Jan. 30 and is speculated to last into summer of 2018. Although the currently standing bridge, which was originally constructed almost a full century ago is still safe to commute on, the goal of the new bridge is to make it even safer and more efficient. The new bridge will be constructed with steel girders, it will be 34′ wide with two 12′ travel lanes and two 8′ shoulder lanes. There will be no weight limit…

Social Worker Expresses Concern About Common Mental Disorder and Laws

After having direct involvement with many reactive attachment disorder (RAD) sufferers – adults and children alike – Shivonne Costa, a local social worker, mother of two adopted children with RAD, and advocate to see social service laws change, is trying to fix misconceptions and share information about the avoidable disorder that she says is becoming increasingly more common. According to PersonalityResearch.org, reactive attachment disorder (RAD) is one of the few disorders listed in the DSM-IV that can be applied to infants. It is a disorder caused by a lack of attachment to any specific caregiver at an early age, and…

A Psychological Look at New Year’s Resolutions

To welcome the New Year, we also like to welcome a fresh start – which often includes a “new” version of ourselves. This is where the annual tradition of declaring a New Year’s resolution stems from; a practice that has been adopted by demographics across the globe in which a person makes a promise to do a self-improving act, such as losing weight or to be more giving, beginning on New Year’s Day. “I believe New Year’s resolutions are an opportunity to think about what you do and how you can improve yourself,” Connie MacDonald the Council President stated, furthering…

Lawrence County Grocery Store Obtains Wine License

Many Pennsylvanians long for the option to buy alcohol at grocery stores – an ability that many other states allow. Luckily for those wishful Pennsylvania residents, in the beginning of August the new permit to sell wine to-go became available in Pennsylvania due to the Wolf Administration, and since then the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has been issuing store license approvals across the state. “The Wolf Administration’s goal has always been to improve the customer experience, make pricing more competitive, make the purchase of products more convenient, and bring more revenue into the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” as quoted by Governor…
