Police are requesting all residents to lock vehicles at night and to avoid leaving valuables in cars after a series of vehicle break-ins at night in Franklin Township.

Two Ellwood Residents Arrested for Outstanding Warrants

According to the police report, Amanda Lee Hasan, 26, of Ellwood was arrested Tuesday for an outstanding bench warrant related to drugs. An officer noticed a car on the road that was being operated by someone who had a suspended license and conducted a traffic stop. Hasan was not the driver but the officer knew she had a warrant for her arrest and asked her to step out of the vehicle so she could be placed in the police cruiser. When Hasan exited the vehicle the officer noticed a clear plastic baggy corner tied in a knot and a syringe between the driver and passengers seats. The officer suspected the items were indications of drug use and asked the other three passengers to step out in order to search the rest of the vehicle. One ripped plastic baggy corner and one used syringe were also seized and sent to the police department for further investigation. Hasan was transported to the appropriate facility for her warrant and the driver of the vehicle was cited with one count of driving while operating privilege is suspended and one count of disorderly conduct.

In a separate incident, Nicholas Alexander Caccia, 30, of Ellwood, was also recently arrested for three outstanding bench warrants. According to the police report, on October 20, police were dispatched for an erratic driver and officers conducted a traffic stop, identified Caccia and transported him to jail for his warrants. Caccia had warrants due to not showing up to court for his hearings which involved three separate incidents. His criminal activity included: two counts of burglary, two counts of conspiracy to burglarize, trespassing, theft, possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.

$1500 Gun Stolen

According to the police report an Ellwood resident called the station on October 23 to report that his $1500 semi automatic gun had been stolen from his residence. The owner of the gun said the last time he physically saw the gun was the last time he used it -at the end of August, and theoretically it could have been missing for months since he hadn’t checked on it.

Handicap Man Stuck on Railroad

According to the police report on October 23, officers were dispatched to the area of 2nd Street and Circle way for a suspicious conditions call. Dispatch advised the responding officer that the caller stated they could hear someone in the area yelling for help but was unsure about who or why. Once the officer arrived in the area, contact was made with a bystander who said he could also hear someone yelling so he walked down Circle Way to investigate where he then observed a man in an electric wheel chair stuck on the railroad tracks requesting help. The bystander assisted the man and there was no further incident.
