According to the police report, two self-proclaimed bounty hunters were stopped in Ellwood on Monday night after an officer noticed their vehicle had a burnt out taillight and the bumper was scraping on the ground every time the vehicle hit a bump.
When the officer pulled the vehicle over and asked the driver for the vehicles information, the driver and passenger both pulled out a badge on a chain from under their shirts and stated they were agents and that the back seat passengers were in training. The responding officer did not observe anything official on any of the individuals other than the round circular badge that was on the driver and front seat passengers chain.
The driver stated they are bounty hunters for an agency in Rochester; it was at this point that the officer asked if if anyone in the car was armed and both the front seat passenger and the driver said that they were. The driver provided the officer with a license to carry, while the passenger did not have any license to offer, he did mention that his gun was not lethal. The officer asked to check the gun for safety reasons and although the gun looked “very realistic”, it was agreed upon by the responding officer and backup that the firearm appeared to only shoot pellets. The passenger did state he uses the gun to shoot “pepper balls”, although he could not explain why he was carrying the gun without any pepper ball ammunition inside of it.
The responding officer let them go but advised he would be checking into their credentials.
According to Digital Trends, these “pepper-spray” guns were recently developed as a way to allow someone the ability to protect themselves without having a lethal weapon. The guns are designed to look like a real guns, however instead of using bullets they are operated similarly to a pellet/paint ball gun- using CO2 to fire pellets that contain pepper spray which explode on impact and should theoretically stun anyone in the same way using pepper spray would. Due to the way the gun operates the regulations for them are more lenient. As quoted by Digital Trends, ‘because it uses CO2, the SALT (pepper spray firearm) doesn’t require official gun regulation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. It also is not subject to federal gun laws and does not require a background check in order to purchase.’
Ellwood residents can sleep peacefully knowing they are protected by bounty hunters patrolling the area with pepper spray guns.
bail enforcement does not protect the community. they take people who jump bail to jail to collect money. police are there to protect the community.
How come all the wackos always end up in Ellwood city
I feel more safe knowing I’m protected by kids with pepper balls then a rapist on the police force.
This is a joke!! I mean Ellwoodcity.org for making this a damn joke. You not only put these guys not boys at risk but you also put the Bail jumper at risk because you only stated what one carries. Not the driver and this is not how it all went down but of course this is Ellwood for ya!
Cherie, we only post what is stated in the police report, hence the “according to the police report”- if any information in this is not “accurate” we cannot help that since we just pull the information from what we are given. On the contrary no one was put “at risk” since no names or companies were stated. Hope this helps clear the confusion.
