Martin C. Zajac, 90, of Allen Court, Wampum passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at his residence.
Born August 14, 1926 in Gallitzin, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha Olshefka Zajac. He was married for 62 years to Irene Rafacz Zajac who survives.
Marty retired in 1986 from Babcox and Wilcox. He was a member for over 50 years of St. Monica Church in Wampum, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a current member of Holy Redeemer Church. Marty was a WWII Veteran of the Army Air Force serving in the Pacific Theatre in Search and Rescue Operations. He was a dedicated member of the Wampum Fire Department, serving for over 50 years. He was a former Wampum Councilman and a member of the Chewton Polish White Eagles. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, dancing, and traveling.
In addition to his wife, Irene, survivors include a son, David M. Zajac of Coconut Creek, Florida; daughter, Linda I. Zajac of Wampum; sister, Florence Falbo of Altoona; and a grandson, David M Zajac Jr. of Coconut Creek.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael in 1964; four sisters, Mary and Frances Zajac, Stella Sral, Genevieve “Jean” Pigza; and five brothers, Edward, Theodore, Michael, Constantine, and Eugene Zajac.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday October 2 from 2-6 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 am at Holy Redeemer Church. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
