Safe Haven Baby Boxes and the community of Ellwood City are pleased to announce the blessing and official unveiling of the newest Safe Haven Baby Box, located at Ellwood City Fire Department at 411 6th street, Ellwood City, Pennsylvania.
The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
This blessing marks the 478th Safe Haven Baby Box in the nation and the 6th in Pennsylvania, expanding access to safe, anonymous surrender options for mothers in crisis.
“We would like to give a special thank you to Jennifer Jones who led this project, Ellwood City Forge and Stephen Johns for their major gifts, Ellwood City Glass for their materials and labor donations, and PROTECH Security for their material and labor donations for the monitoring system,” posted the ECFD in a social media post.
Jones helped facilitate the project which was first announced in April 2026.
“Your commitment to protecting the most vulnerable and ensuring families have safe options has made a lasting impact, and we are deeply grateful for your efforts in making this life‑saving resource a reality,” ECFD adds.
Safe Haven Baby Boxes Founder Monica Kelsey shared, “We are the only organization providing complete anonymity and we want these mothers to know we are there for them and their infant before and following a surrender.”
The public is encouraged to attend this community event and learn more about how Safe Haven Baby Boxes help protect vulnerable infants and support parents who choose a safe, legal alternative in moments of crisis.
