The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den 11 met on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Nico Lucciano’s Restaurant.
The members dined on manicotti and meatballs, chicken tenders and italian salad. The meeting centered on presenting donations for various community groups as their moto is Pro Bono Publico which means for the good of the public.
The presentations began with member Hank Glogowski presenting a donation of $500.00 to the Divine Grace Ministerium Social Services. The check was received by Cathy Glogowski, co-director of Divine Grace Ministerium Social Services. Mrs. Glogowski thanked the club for its continued support.
The club donates buns, vegetables and other food items from their three public events to their food pantry as well as providing financial donations. Mrs. Glogowski stated the Social Services provided help for 376 families (1,500 people) in March via their food pantry and 100 people with utility bills. They assisted a group of three homeless people; finding housing for two. The cost of the food they buy to distribute has gone up so monetary donations are always welcome. The public can also donate food items to distribute. The food bank is open three days a week: Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday from 9-330 and is located in the former Holy Redeemer School on 3rd Street in Ellwood City.
The second presentation from member Larry Crespo to Ellwood City Area Meals on Wheels Program. Mrs. Terri Crespo, director of the Program, accepted the donation of $500.00. Mrs. Crespo introduced the Programs’ Chef, Ms. Crystal Simpson. She has been the cook for the past five years. The Program is hosted by the Calvin Presbyterian Church. Mrs Crespo said donations like these help them buy food and supplies. The program has 40 clients and the client cost has not gone up over the past five years. The Program serves the area from Wampum to North Sewickley Twp. The Program needs volunteer drivers as they lost a couple this last year. Drivers serve once every three weeks for an hour. Please consider becoming a volunteer driver. To volunteer please contact the program at 724-752-9413.
President Mike DeOtto presented a donation to the Elwood After Prom Committee. Tom Yoho, a club member and member of the After Prom Committee accepted the donation of $250, which helps in getting supplies and advertising. The After Prom Committee has been in existence since 1925.
The club also gave a donation of $250 to the Lillyville Church of God for their monthly food pantry program which serves parishioners from the Fombell area.. A representative from the Church was not able to attend the meeting.
The club also gave a donation of $2,500 to the Holy Redeemer Church Community Dinner Program. That program started last April as a once monthly dinner for those alone or in need of a meal. Since January 2026, they have 8 crews providing meals on a weekly basis. They went from originally serving 30 people to 90 this past Sunday. The menu changes weekly from chicken to pasta to roast beef and ham. Donations of food and money are always welcome. The originator of the meal, Fr Joe Freedy-parochial vicar of Holy Redeemer Church, accepted the donation on behalf of Lara Zelch, the Community Dinner Chairwoman.
Bob Petti, Wolves Club Festival chairman, reported that the Ellwood Arts and Crafts Festival dates are set: July 4, 5 and 6 of this year. We are the largest food vendor of the 23 signed up this year. Many hands are needed to supply the food needs of the crowds. Please volunteer.
John DiBuono, Wolves Club Scholarship chairman, reported the scholarships are being reviewed and no winners were selected yet. Two new scholarships this year are for students wishing to attend trade schools: one $2000 for a Lincoln student and one $2000 for a Riverside student. The Annual Scholarship Dinner will be held at the Connequennesing Country Club on May 29 at 6PM.
The next meeting will be held on April 29 at the Wolves Shelter in Ewing Park at 6PM. It will be a cleanup work session.
