David J. Koach, 77

Following a brief illness David J. Koach, 77, of Portland Oregon, died June 23, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Ellwood City PA, he was the son of the late Glenn and Helenann (Tallon) Koach.

Although moving to Portland in 1972, Dave always considered Ellwood City to be his home town. He came back often to visit family, neighbors, and friends by the score. Class reunions were a favorite along with a round or two of golf and stopping for pizza and a chili dog. A special time was equally enjoyed at the family camp on French Creek.

Dave was most welcoming to everyone and the first to rise with a handshake or hug when he noticed you. He amused us with jokes and stories and he fully enjoyed life

He is survived by his children, Erin, Caitlin, and Colin, their spouses and his six grandchildren of Portland. Also surviving are a sister Glenda (John) Blinn, sister in law Norma Koach and brother in law Steve Battaglia, all of Ellwood City. Included in the family circle are many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins to whom he always saved a chair to visit for awhile.

Preceding him were his parents, brother Walter and sister Carolyn. Each of whom he loved dearly. We will miss David very much.

Dave was my neighbor for 29 years. I just found out about his passing. He always had a good word for me. Played some BB on the street with him once or twice. My favorite is when he would talk about his career as Oregon mortuary director. I loved his stories about the Terrible Tilly lighthouse.
