The Ellwood City and Riverside baseball teams each collected their 10th victories of the regular season on Tuesday.
The Wolverines easily dispatched visiting Beaver Falls 15-0 in four innings at Sanders Field in Ewing Park while the Panthers knocked off Quaker Valley 4-1 at home. Both teams will next play road games to round out their respective two-games series.
For Ellwood City, a 10-run second inning propelled the offense. Sam Landis (2-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) singled, scoring two runs, Jacob Biskup grounded out, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Aaron Lake singled, scoring one run, Will Nardone doubled, scoring two runs, Cameron Mills singled, scoring one run, and Sam Landis singled, scoring one run.
The Wolverines added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Gino Biondi doubled down the right field line, and Anthony Popovich hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Owen Andrews earned the win for Ellwood City. The starter surrendered one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking none.
Popovich, Maykel Cuevas, Landis, and Nardone each drove in two runs for Ellwood City. Geordan Bokor led the Wolverines with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game.
Ellwood City (10-4 Overall, 5-2 Section 3A-1) will next play at Beaver Falls on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m..
RIVERSIDE 4 QUAKER VALLEY 1
Riverside got three hits from leadoff hitter Sean Hayes (3-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) and three pitchers combined on a four-hitter in the home victory.
The Panthers got on the board in the first inning after Drake Fox was struck by a pitch driving in a run and three more runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 4-0.
Zack Hare (2-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs) slugged a two-run homerun to right field in the inning.
Christian Lucarelli earned the win for Riverside. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out four and walking two. Hunter Garvin pitched four innings in relief for the Panthers. The lefty allowed three hits and one run while, striking out five and walking none. Hare rounded out the pitching performances, striking out two in his lone inning on the mound.
Nolan Wagoner took the loss for Quaker Valley. The righty went four and one-third innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking three.
Riverside (10-2 Overall, 6-1 Section 3A-1) will travel to Quaker Valley for their next scheduled game on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.. The school announced the game has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday due to umpire shortage.
