According to published reports, police say a 42-year-old male called 911 early Friday morning, claiming Hinchberger broke into his camper, assaulted him, stole multiple firearms and a wallet containing $1,700. The victim was transported to AHN Grove City then flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital to treat his skull fracture and other injuries, police said. Police found blood and gunshot damage when investigating the victim’s camper, according to the affidavit.
The victim told police he arrived home earlier that evening and was preparing to unlock the door when Hinchberger ran out of the woods yelling threats while carrying a revolver and blunt object. Reports relate Hinchberger assaulted the victim outside with the blunt object then searched his vehicle and followed him into the trailer and continued to assault him.
About 10 minutes after the initial 911 call, police responded to a crash on Cemetery Road in Venango Township about 5 miles from the assault and found a crashed vehicle but no driver. Police said they saw multiple long guns in the vehicle and found a revolver on the ground beside the vehicle.
EVADING POLICE:
Thomas Reed, 38, of New Castle, is charged with Evading Police following a pursuit that began in Neshannock Township, Lawrence County, on Saturday morning, according to a news release from the state police.
Troopers from New Castle were alerted by state police in Butler to a stolen Chevrolet Silverado believed to be around Interstate 376 East and State Route 208. At approximately 9:25 a.m., troopers spotted the vehicle traveling east on Mitchell Road in Neshannock Township. The chase began after police said the pickup truck accelerated at a high rate of speed through an intersection with State Route 18. The pursuit continued through New Castle City, Taylor Township, Ellwood City Borough, and into Beaver County on State Route 288.
As the pursuit entered Zelienople Borough in Butler County, Reed allegedly swerved the vehicle toward a Zelienople police officer who was attempting to deploy a tire deflation device, narrowly missing the officer, state police said.
The pursuit was ended south of Zelienople Borough after police confirmed Reed’s identity. The stolen vehicle was found abandoned in a parking lot and impounded. Reed was later taken into custody by Pittsburgh police in connection with an unrelated incident and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Reed is in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting extradition to Lawrence County.
