“Operation Healthy Ellwood” Coming In July

The Ellwood City Area School District, in partnership with the Ellwood City Borough, will be hosting Operation Healthy Ellwood IRT July 23-26 and July 28-August 1 at Lincoln Jr/Sr. High School, 501 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

This is a NO COST opportunity for anyone in any community to get access to medical, dental, vision (including eyeglass fabrication), behavioral health, and veterinary services.

The clinics will run 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and no appointment is needed! Operation Healthy Ellwood is made possible by 200 military medical professionals from all branches of the US Military.

“Innovative Readiness Training, or IRT, is a Department of Defense military training program that brings joint service members together in a simulated deployed environment to enhance military readiness. Guard and Reserve doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists, veterinarians, and all the necessary support staff step away from their private practices and civilian jobs to complete their “two weeks a year” training event while simultaneously providing key medical services to American communities,” says Captain Heather Edsall, Medical Program Manager, Innovative Readiness Training.

You can follow the Facebook page, Operation Healthy Ellwood IRT 2025, for additional information, real-time updates, and to follow our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines as they come to serve Ellwood City and surrounding communities.

“This is a great benefit for the Ellwood City Community. Since the Ellwood City hospital is closed this program will help elderly and families in need get the medical care they need at no cost. The military team led by Captain Edsall have been working for months preparing for this mission. Ellwood City was selected from over 100 applicants. It feels like we won the lottery. This mission is going to have a big impact on our community. I also want to thank Colonel Hurley and Mrs. Rhiannon Schnell for all their hard work behind the scenes to make this all happen,” says Borough Manager Kevin Swogger.

“Dental, vision, general medical and even veterinary care. They will be providing unprecedented access to your needs at no cost to you. Working with Captain Edsall to coordinate this project has been incredible. She and her team have thought of every possible concern they may encounter. The best part is that this community will benefit the most,” adds Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley.
