As part of the monthly meeting of the Lawrence County Commissioners that took place Thursday morning, the board discussed and adopted a Countywide Burn Ban.
The ban does include Ellwood City and our surrounding areas.
According to the Ellwood City Fire Department, and for the safety and welfare of the people of Lawrence County, the Lawrence County Commissioners placed an OPEN OUTDOOR BURNING BAN for all of Lawrence County.
This ban will be in effect for 30 days and will be enforced by a fine for each offense.
Please do not burn any recreational or cooking fires unless it is on a propane or charcoal grill.
“This ban is to prevent the dangers and threats of uncontrolled and unsafe fires that have been overwhelming our first responders for the last couple of weeks,” says the Ellwood City Fire Department in a statement made available on its Facebook Page.
Since October 22, 2024, the county 911 center has fielded 35 calls for brush fires. These fires have destroyed property, placed firefighter lives and firefighting equipment at risk and has placed local homes and businesses at risk. In addition to Lawrence County, 13 other Pennsylvania counties, All state forests, state parks and state owned campgrounds and all state game lands have been placed under an open burning ban.
