Big innings by each of the local softball teams helped secure home victories on Wednesday.
Ellwood City used a 7-run second inning en route to a 13-0 mercy rule victory over Beaver Falls while Riverside used an 8-run fourth inning to bounce New Brighton 13-0.
For the Wolverines, Keira Rozanski, Amber McQuistion, Ellie Kalantzis, and Alexis Beck each collected two RBIs in the home victory. Kalantzis, McQuistion, and Kaylee Palombi swatted doubles.
In the second inning, Rozanski singled scoring one run, Kalantzis singled to knock in three runs, Alex Beck singled scoring one run, Palombi doubled scoring a run, and Rozanski singled scoring a run.
As a team, the Wolverines collected 10 walks in the contest. Sara Schwarz scored three runs without an official at-bat in the victory. McQuistion when five innings allowing only a single hit to earn the victory on the rubber.
Ellwood City (6-1 Overall) next welcome Quaker Valley on Friday for their next scheduled game.
For the Panthers, seven starters collected hits in the mercy rule victory. Rosenberger and Cummings colleted two hits apiece while three Panthers swatted doubles.
In the big fourth inning, Ainslee Freshcorn collected a two run double, Joci Cummings a two-run single, Ayla Sterner a RBI single, and Charlie Bissel a two-run double to stretch out what was a five run advantage to a 13-0 lead for the host Panthers.
Sterner collected the complete game victory on the rubber for Riverside, allowing only two hits across five scoreless innings. She struck out seven Lions without issuing a walk.
Riverside (2-1 Overall) will travel to Shenango for their next scheduled game on Thursday.
