The Ellwood City girls basketball traveled across the mighty Connoqunessing River Thursday evening and earned a 62-40 victory over rival Riverside.
The Lady Wolverines jumped out to an early 21-8 advantage after the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead as three players scored in double figures.
Claire Noble (18 points) and Kayla Jones (13 points) each drained two 3-pointers to helped the offensive charge. Junior Elsie Sturgeon finished with a career-high 15 points
For the Panthers (3-5 Overall, 0-2 Section 3A-1), Delana Fox scored a team-high 19 points and collected 10 rebounds. Emma Thellman finished with 13 points, four steals, and three assists in defeat.
The Riverside Junior Varsity team defeated Ellwood City 44-8 behind a 21 point effort by Addison Drake. Drake finished with three 3-pointers, six steals, and three assists for the JV Panthers.
Ellwood City (8-4 Overall, 1-1 Section 3A-1) next hosts Mohawk on Monday at 7:30 p.m. while Riverside will travel to Neshannock on Monday.
