Many know of family, friends or acquaintances who have survived a SCI. Statistics show that it is not unusual for SCI survivors to end up facing recovery without the help of family support systems which include the loss of spousal support. Rebuild Better Together’s (RBT) mission is simply to aid the SCI person’s return to independence post-injury.
The RBT KARA PROGRAM was inspired by board member Jared Quinteros who survived a SCI while he and his wife Kara were hiking through Boyce Mayview Park in Pittsburgh. A tree limb fell severing Jared’s spinal cord and his wife, Kara, was killed. Jared recognized that there are many others that need assistance retrofitting their homes after a SCI. The KARA Program was born in memory of his wife; the program embodies her mantra of “Share the Love”.
