Riverside Wins Wild 15-13 Slugfest Over Ellwood City

In a rivalry game that saw two wild rallies and 30 combined hits, the Riverside Panthers responded last in its 15-13 road victory over Ellwood City on Saturday.

After taking a 7-5 lead in the top half of the fourth inning, only to surrender eight runs in the bottom half, the Panthers rallies late with a seven run fifth inning to take its final lead in the contest.

Aaron Falk led Riverside to victory by driving in five runs. Falk went 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles. Falk drove in runs on a double in the fourth and a single in the fifth.

The Panthers totaled 15 hits in its victory with Curtis Johnston, Falk, Sam Barber, Dantae Phillips, and Mitchell Garvin all managed multiple hits for Riverside. Johnston finished with four hits in five at bats.  Seven Panther starters collected hits in the contest.

Falk also earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound. The righthander allowed only one hit over three and a third innings scoreless inning.  Falk struck out two and settled the Panthers team down after the host Wolverines put up eight runs in the fourth inning.

Ron Harper started the game for Riverside. Harper went two innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out one.

Ryan Gibbons started the game for Ellwood City, lasting one and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out four and walking zero

Ellwood City also racked up 15 hits in the game. Ashton Wilson, Biskup, Magill, and Meehan each collected multiple hits for the Wolverines. Wilson led Ellwood City with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.

Riverside (2-1 overall) will next play at home Tuesday versus Neshannock and then travel Wednesday to play at the Lancers.

Ellwood City falls to 0-4 on the young season and starts its section play on Tuesday and Wednesday – both games against New Brighton.
